Seton Hall men’s soccer signs four newcomers to 2023 roster

South Orange, N.J. – Seton Hall men’s soccer and head coach Andreas Lindberg have announced four additions to the squad for the 2023 season. The Pirates will welcome in a trio of transfers in Samuel Bjork, Rikard Cederberg and Jared Smith, as well as freshman Ethan Wright.

Samuel Bjork arrives on campus as a transfer from Jonkoping University in Sweden. He played for club team Husqvarna and appeared in a total of 55 matches, tallying three goals and 14 assists as a defender. Bjork’s team were two-time district champions, and he played the most minutes among field players on his squad in 2022.

Rikard Cederberg comes to South Orange from Bellarmine, where he was named First Team ASUN All-Conference in 2022 and ASUN All-Freshman in 2021. The defender started all 35 matches he played in with the Knights, logging 1,657 out of a possible 1,660 minutes on the back line. Cederberg guided a strong Bellarmine defense over his two seasons, with the Knights posting 11 shutouts and allowing one goal or less in 25 matches during Cederberg’s career.

Jared Smith transfers into the program after spending three seasons at Quinnipiac. He appeared in 40 games with the Bobcats and made 22 starts, scoring two goals and tallying seven assists over his time in Hamden, Conn. This past season, the defender started 19 of the 20 matches he played in, registering a goal and six assists on the season. Wright helped Quinnipiac to the program’s first MAAC Tournament title and NCAA Tournament appearance since 2013.

Ethan Wright is a resident of Columbia, Md. who comes to South Orange from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School. He won the Maryland 4A regional championship in 2021, as well as the Dallas Cup with Baltimore Armor U17. Wright also spent two seasons as an attacker at DeMatha High School.

The four newcomers join a program fresh off its 13th NCAA Tournament appearance in its history, which came on the heels of its best finish in the BIG EAST standings since 1991.
