Six Girls DA clubs expand to compete in Frontier Development League
Austin, TX (Via Lonestar SC) – Lonestar Soccer Club has announced its participation in the Frontier Development League (FDL) for its inaugural 2018-19 season.
Working together to benefit player development in the Frontier Conference – a known hot bed of youth soccer talent – six highly successful youth soccer clubs in the U.S. Soccer Girls’ Development Academy have announced today their plan for expansion into the Frontier Development League.
Exclusively comprised of members from the Frontier Conference of the Girls’ Development Academy (DA) – Lonestar SC, FC Dallas, Houston Dash, Solar, Oklahoma Energy FC and Dallas Texans have joined forces to provide more player development opportunities for U13-U19 (2006-2000 birth years) girls in the region.
The FDL provides a clear pathway for players who show the potential to make the jump to the DA level of play, offering players who excel the opportunity to be called up as a Development Player for their respective DA teams. This structure provides an expanded pool of aspiring DA players with more exposure to the DA training model and level of play, while allowing them the time they need to develop as well as offering the flexibility to play high school soccer.
Founded on the ideology of the full DA program, the FDL provides a development structure that focuses on playing more meaningful games with a highly professional game day environment, more training, high level coaching and top exposure in major college showcase events.
Don Cameron, Lonestar’s Executive Director of Soccer expressed, “Lonestar is delighted and honored to be one of the founding members of the Frontier Development League (FDL). We always want to be on the forefront of development for our player pool and align ourselves with clubs who believe in the same philosophies. FDL players will have the opportunity to develop at their own pace while developing with and against top competition in Texas, as well as around the nation. The FDL program will follow the same curriculum, guidelines and high level training environment as the full DA program; however, it will also allow players the freedom to play high school soccer, participate in extracurricular activities, re-enter matches after substitution, as well as compete in State Cup. Additionally, the FDL will offer players the most sought after college exposure opportunities by coordinating match schedules with the DA. With other top youth soccer clubs involved and other conferences around the country to follow suit, the future looks bright for our players!”
Wes Schevers, Lonestar Girls National League Program Director, echoes the sentiment, adding, “Lonestar SC is excited to be a part of the inaugural season of the Frontier Development League (FDL). The FDL will create a highly competitive, stable, and consistent platform with advancement into regional and national competitions. We are looking forward to sharing this venture with other clubs leaders in the DA Frontier Conference. Through collaboration of the best clubs in our markets, the FDL will only add to the college exposure opportunities for each of our clubs and players!”
In addition to the FDL league, teams will be allowed to play in USYS National League, Regional Championships, and the National Series State Cup. This comes on the heels of US Youth Soccer’s announcement for new league structure and unveiling of its the new US Youth Soccer National Leagues Program for high-level competitive leagues that will kick-off in the 2018-19 season.
