BEAVERTON, Ore. (Via U.S. Soccer) – The U.S. Under-17 Women’s National Team defeated its counterparts from England, 6-1, in the first of two matches between the teams. The match was played at the Portland Timbers Training Facility and saw the USA score early and often.

The lead was doubled eight minutes later when forward Peyton Linnehan nutmegged the last defender as she slotted a ball through to forward Ainsley Ahmadian, who ran onto the pass and hit the bottom left corner with a first-time shot.
The USA made it 3-0 one minute before halftime as defender Makenna Morris played a wall pass with defender Natalia Staude near midfield and then broke away before firing from the top of the penalty area. Her shot hit the cross bar at the upper right corner and flew into the goal.
In the 68th minute the USA got its fourth goal off a long punt from goalkeeper Angelina Anderson. The ball bounced into the final third of the field where forward Lia Godfrey took a shot that was deflected off a defender to Ahmadian. Her shot was also deflected and fell to Godfrey, who finished that chance first-time.
In a match that saw the USA out-shoot England 15-4, the Americans continued to roll and made it 5-0 in the 74th minute off a goal from defender Michela Agresti.
England pulled a goal back in the 80th minute, but it was the USA which would finish the scoring, making it 6-1 as forward Isabella D’Aquila finished a Maya Doms corner kick first-time at the near post.

For Fishel, Ahmadian and Agresti, the goals were their second at the U-17 international level. D’Aquila scored her first international goal in her first U-17 cap. Morris’ goal was also her first. For Godfrey, who was a member of the last U-17 cycle and played in the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Jordan, the goal was her fourth internationally at this age level.
This group of U.S. players is in the first year of a two-year cycle in which they will attempt to qualify for the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup that will be staged in Uruguay.
