SoccerWire Rankings prompt social media banter between MLS clubs

Last Thursday, SoccerWire dropped the latest edition of our monthly Top 100 Boys Soccer Clubs, and for the first time ever, FC Dallas was dethroned from the top spot by Philadelphia Union.
The rankings, which have run since February 2020, are determined by a completely results-based algorithm that takes into account U.S. National Team call-ups and the current strength of each club’s U15-U19 teams.
In the wake of the new rankings, Philadelphia Union took to Twitter to relish in their newfound victory over rival FC Dallas before poking some jabs at FC Dallas for their bio stating “Our academy is better than yours.”

FC Dallas honored Philadelphia Union’s request, updating their twitter bio to say “One ranking doesn’t top 15 years of talent development,” leading Philadelphia Union to respond one more time.

Both clubs will have great opportunities to back up their banter as soon as next week, when the inaugural MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs start on July 25. Hopefully we get to see at least one matchup between either their U15s or U17s, age groups in which both teams are currently ranked within the top 10.
For now, check out SoccerWire’s Top 100 Boys Soccer Clubs for June, and keep coming back to SoccerWire for more updates on the MLS NEXT playoffs.
