The 2016 Virginian Elite Soccer Tournament will be played over Memorial Day weekend, as 594 teams from six U.S. states and Canada compete in one of the largest and longest running events in the nation.

Attending teams for the tournament hosted by Springfield South County Youth Club (SYC) will represent Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the host state of Virginia, along with one Canadian club.

This year’s field of teams includes a wide range of competition levels, with as many as six brackets in some age groups. Teams from many of the region’s most popular US Youth Soccer and US Club Soccer sanctioned leagues will be in the mix, including the Club Champions League (CCL), CCL II, Region I Champions League, EDP League, Virginia Premier League, Washington Area Girls Soccer League (WAGS), National Capital Soccer League (NCSL) and Philadelphia Area Girls Soccer (PAGS), among others.

The top divisions at the Virginian will include a collection of premier level teams, including two reigning Virginia State Cup champion squads (Loudoun SC Girls 01 Red / Vienna Youth Soccer Phoenix 99 Girls), two state semifinalists from Virginia (Lee Mt. Vernon SC Patriots Red 02 Boys / VSA Elite 97 Girls) and another representing Eastern Pennsylvania (Buckingham United SC Banshees U-15 Girls).

An Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) side will also be in attendance, as the McLean Youth Soccer U-14 squad makes an appearance in the Girls Virginia Cup Division.

College coaches from more than 50 schools have pre-registered to attend the event, many of which will have coaches from both the men’s and women’s programs in attendance. Programs from all levels of collegiate soccer have signed up to scout the Virginian’s showcase age groups, including Division I teams from the Ivy League, Atlantic 10, Colonial Athletic Association, Big South, Big 10 and WAC.

Others from various Division II, Division III, NAIA and Junior College conferences will come in from throughout the host state of Virginia, as well as Washington D.C., Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Vermont, California, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Arizona, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Texas.

More than 30 field locations throughout Northern Virginia will host Virginian Elite Soccer Tournament action this weekend. Once again, the turf fields at the Evergreen Sportsplex in Leesburg will provide college coaches with a central location to watch the majority of the girls showcase divisions, while the boys showcase age groups compete at fields across Arrowhead Park in Herndon, Draper Park in Fairfax and Centreville High School.
