Temple women’s soccer reveals 12 players set to join 2021 roster

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Temple Owls women’s soccer head coach Nick Bochette announced the addition of ten new freshman and two transfers ahead of the 2021 season.

“We are excited to welcome in a diverse class of new teammates to our Owls Family. This group contains student-athletes from several different countries and several different academic classes, all who will contribute to different parts of our program,” coach Bochette shared. “More importantly, they are fantastic young women who will add to the character and culture of our program. I have no doubt this incoming group will excel in the classroom, on the field, in the community, and in the team room.”

Meet the Temple class of 2021:

Phoebe Hollin

Defender
INT

Phoebe Hollin, a 5’7” defender from Oldham, England, joins the Temple women’s soccer family as an international student. Hollin has been a member of Machester United, an elite club team in England since age 13. She competed on the U16 team that won back-to-back league championships and reached the FA Cup for two consecutive years. Hollin has not yet decided on a major at Temple.

Jessica Wallace

Jessica Wallace, a 5’7” defender from Bowie, Md., spent the last four years at Archbishop Spalding High School. The two-time captain led the team to a 13-2-1 record as a junior and earned a spot on the IAAM All-Conference Team, All-Anne Arundel County Second Team, Fall All-Met Honorable Mention, Baltimore Sun All-Metro Honorable Mention and All-State Honorable Mention team. Wallace played club for Maryland United FC ECNL. She plans to study Health Professions at Temple.

Erin Theiller

Erin Theiller, a 5’9” midfielder from Hopewell Junction, N.Y., joins Temple women’s soccer as a graduate transfer student from Binghamton University. Theiller was a four-year starter and two-year captain for the Bearcats, leading the team to the AEC Championship match in her senior season. Theiller earned a spot on the All-Championship team and received First Team All-Conference honors for her efforts. As a freshman, Theiller was named to the AEC All-Rookie team and Second Team All-Conference. Theiller’s performance in the classroom did not go unnoticed as she was named a two-time All-Academic selection, a USC Scholar All-East Region Second Team selection and USC Scholar All-East Region Third Team selection. The standout student-athlete is pursuing a Masters of Neuromotor Sciences at Temple.

Moa Andersson

Moa Andersson, a 5’3” midfielder from Valbo, Sweden, joins Temple as the second international student in the incoming class. Andersson played club soccer for Gefle IF and Sandiviken IF, two elite programs in Sweden. Andersson helped Gefle IF advance to the Goeransson Cup on three separate occasions. In 2018, Andersson transitioned to play for the Sandiviken IF, Sweden’s second highest series from women. Andersson plans to study Accounting at Temple.

Kyla Tucker

Midfielder

Kyla Tucker, a 5’5” forward from Bayfield, Co., joins Temple with a diverse training background. Tucker trained at the West Ham Academy in England in 2015 before returning home and becoming a four-year member of the New Mexico ODP. Tucker was invited to the Region IV ODP camp in both 2016 and 2020. She played club soccer for the New Mexico Sting, helping the team to a state cup in 2017 before transitioning to play for Dallas Sting ECNL. During her time with the Sting, Tucker won the ECNL Regional League Championship and was a finalist at the US Club Soccer Nationals. Tucker finished her club soccer career back in her home state of Colorado with the Colorado Rush. Tucker plans to study Architecture at Temple.

Natalie DeMasi

Natalie DeMasi, a 5’4” defender from East Meadow N.Y., played for nationally ranked St. Anthony’s High School, the No. 22 team in the country and No. 2 team in the state of New York. As a junior, DeMasi helped the team to a 9-0 record as they won both the league championship and New York State Championship. DeMasi played club for East Meadow SC ECNL. The defender plans to study Criminal Justice at Temple.

Alexis Vanderzeyde

Alexis Vanderzeyde, a 5’3” midfielder from Middleboro, Mass., was a four-year letter winner at Middleboro High School and led the team to a league championship as a senior. Vanderzeyde played club soccer for Coastal FC and won the Jefferson Cup, one of the largest tournaments in the country. Vanderzeyde has not yet decided on a major at Temple.

Ayana Togba

Ayana Togba, a 5’6” defender from Odenton, Md., spent the last four years at Arundel High School. As a junior, Togba and the Arundel Wildcats won a regional championship and posted a final record of 16-3. Togba played club soccer for the nationally ranked OPSA Magic, winning the 2019 Maryland State Cup, advancing to the regional finals and competing in the National League. Togba plans to study Engineering at Temple. She is joined by her twin sister, Sumaya Togba, a forward for the Owls.

Sumaya Togba

Sumaya Togba, a 5’7” forward from Odenton, Md., played for Arundel High School and the OSPA Magic. Togba led the Arundel Wildcats in goals as a sophomore and earned All-County recognition. As a junior the Wildcats clinched the regional championship and posted a final record of 16-3. For the OPSA MAGIC, Togba and her twin sister Ayana, helped the team to the 2019 Maryland State Cup and advanced to the regional finals and National League. Togba has not yet decided on a major.

Carly Steinberg, a 5’5” midfielder from Mahopac, N.Y., joins the Owls as a sophomore transfer student from Colgate University. Steinberg appeared in three games as a freshman for the Raiders. Before Colgate, the two-time captain and four-year letter winner of Mahopac High School helped the team to four straight sectional appearances. Steinberg recorded 68 goals and 31 assists in her four years, earning All-League selection honors every year. The standout midfielder helped lead her team to a USA Today Preseason Top 25 ranking and earned an invitation to the 2019 ECNL Composite Division. Steinberg was a First Team All-State honoree as a junior and found continued success as a senior, being named to the All-America and All-State team.

Reese Henderson

Reese Henderson, a 5’7” defender from Paoli, Pa., was a four-year letter winner at nearby Conestoga High School. As both a junior and senior, Henderson was named First Team All-Central, First Team All-Main Line and First Team All-Area. She helped her team to a District One Championship as a sophomore and a Central League Championship as a freshman. Henderson played club soccer for Penn Fusion. She has not yet decided on a major at Temple.

Brooke Hurst

Reese Henderson, a 5’7” defender from Paoli, Pa., was a four-year letter winner at nearby Conestoga High School. As both a junior and senior, Henderson was named First Team All-Central, First Team All-Main Line and First Team All-Area. She helped her team to a District One Championship as a sophomore and a Central League Championship as a freshman. Henderson played club soccer for Penn Fusion. She has not yet decided on a major at Temple.
