Texas, TCU, Oklahoma and West Virginia advance to Big 12 Semifinals

ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Big 12 Championship Semifinals are officially set, as four teams emerged out of the quarterfinal round over the weekend.

No. 1 seed Texas will matchup with with No. 4 seed West Virginia in the Big 12 semifinals, while No. 2 seed TCU will battle No. 6 seed Oklahoma.

Texas defeats Kansas State 4-0

Lexi Missimo had a goal and two assists to lead No. 1-seed Texas to a 4-0 win over No. 8-seed Kansas State to kick off the 2022 Big 12 Soccer Championship Quarterfinals.

Texas started the scoring with two goals off of corner kicks in the span of two minutes. Forward Holly Ward was assisted by EmJ Cox and Missimo in the 26th minute, followed by Cox, who pushed in a goal of her own as she got in front of Kansas State goalkeeper Alaina Werremeyer in the 28th minute. The Longhorns picked up nine corner kicks in the first half as the Wildcats had two.

Missimo finished a penalty kick in the 34th minute to give Texas a 3-0 halftime lead. Trinity Byars solidified the win the 70th minute with a goal.

The quarterfinal match was the first appearance of the Kansas State Wildcats in a Big 12 Soccer Championship. Werremeyer had five saves in net, and K-State’s Jazmin Brown had the Wildcats’ best scoring chance in the 42nd minute. Brown’s shot was right on target but was deflected over the crossbar by Texas goalkeeper Savannah Madden, who picked up the shutout.

West Virginia edges out Oklahoma State 2-1

Goals scored by Lauren Segalla and Jordan Brewster lifted No. 4-seed West Virginia to a 2-1 win over No. 5-seed Oklahoma State at the Big 12 Soccer Championship.

After a scoreless first half, West Virginia got on the board in the 65th minute when egalla headed in a corner kick. Brewster converted a penalty kick in the 84th minute to expand the lead. Oklahoma State fired back as Olyvia Dowell netted a ball to the bottom left of the goal past WVU’s Kayza Massey a minute later.

Cowgirls goalkeeper Jordan Nytes recorded five saves, including three in the first half, and freshman midfielder Xcaret Pineda added an assist for the Cowgirls on Sunday afternoon.

West Virginia faces Texas in the semifinals of the 2022 Sprouts Farmers Market Big 12 Championship semifinals at 4:30 p.m. CT on Thursday.

TCU Advances to Semifinals after 5-1 Win Over Kansas

After a two-goal effort from Sarah Melcher, No. 2-seed TCU advanced to the Big 12 Soccer Championship semifinals after defeating No. 7-seed Kansas 5-1 on Sunday evening.

The Horned Frogs attacked early as Melcher scored her first and second career goals in the ninth and 22nd minutes of the match. TCU forward Kennedy Clountz scored on a penalty kick in the 27th minute, marking the third consecutive game with a converted penalty in the Big 12 quarterfinals.

TCU’s Messiah Bright landed a goal in the 50th minute to start off the second half before teammate Dana Reed scored her first goal of the season in the 87th minute.

Kansas’ midfielder Rylan Childers scored her seventh goal of the season in the 89th minute.

Pak’s Last-Minute Winner Sends OU To Semifinals

Oklahoma’s Jessica Pak scored with nine seconds left, sending the No. 6-seed Sooners into the Big 12 Soccer Championship semifinals with a 1-0 win over No. 3-seed Texas Tech on Sunday.

Alexis Washington and Hadley Murrell assisted on Pak’s third goal of the season, breaking a scoreless draw and avoiding an impending overtime period. The teams spent the final 30 minutes searching for the winner, as 13 of the 29 shots taken, and all five shots on goal, came in the last half-hour.

Olivia Ramey had her third shutout of the season, making two saves. Texas Tech’s Madison White had two saves, and only allowed Pak’s game-winner.

The win marked Oklahoma’s first at the Big 12 Championship since 2016. The Sooners take on No. 2-seed TCU at 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 3.
