Notes from the Far West Presidents Cup finals…

13U Girls
In one of the few 0-0 regulation matches, Real Colorado Girls Olympico (CO) avenged its 2-1 group play loss to So Cal Blues Sarabia (CA-S) in today’s final. The 0-0 scoreline was to be expected from two of the top defenses in the tournament. Needing a winner to claim the title, the match continued through a scoreless overtime. In the shootout both teams had some misses but in the end Real Colorado was able to score when it mattered and claim the penalty kick victory and become this year’s champions.

14U Girls
The all CA-S final didn’t disappoint as AVSC Storm Academy (CA-S) put on a scintillating display beating the previously undefeated Simi Valley Eclipse (CA-S) 3-0. The result is particularly impressive considering the Simi Valley defense had only conceded once all tournament leading into the final. Anjel Rodriguez scored twice to become the leading goal scorer in the age group with 5.

15U Girls
Beach FC (CA-S) wrapped up an unbeaten tournament with a 5-2 victory over Pride SC Copa 04 Girls (CO). Pride SC played well scoring twice which equalled the amount Beach FC had allowed in its previous 5 games combined. Sydney Trump and Tessa Simmons each scored a brace for Beach FC in the victory. Tessa Simmons‘ goals were enough to separate her from the pack and become leading goal scorer in the group with 6.

16U Girls
Idaho Rush 03 Premier (ID) entered the final as one of the top teams both offensively and defensively in the 16U Girls age bracket. In the final, both its offense and defense showed up. Offensively it scored 6 times on a good Westminster Soccer 03 Orange (CO) team. Defensively it held Colorado to 1 goal and only allowed 2 goals all tournament. Idaho Rush’s offense was anchored by 3 of the top 4 goal scorers in the age group including the top 2, Kendra McDaniel and Jayla Ponce who each scored 6. 4 of McDaniel’s goals came in today’s final.

17U Girls
LVSA 02 National League (NV) rebounded from a slow group play to win 3 straight knockout games and become 2019 Far West Presidents Cup Champions. In the final they took on a SWAT Crush 02G CB (UT) team. The final score was 1-0 but LVSA had the majority of possession and scoring opportunities. Jaden Terrana scored her 4th goal of the tournament to clinch the championship for her team.

18U Girls
CC Aztecs/Coast (CA-S) finished the tournament unbeaten after defeating Broomfield Blast SC Magista (CO) 1-0 in the final. CC Aztecs/Coast looked to be in control all tournament with only 1 draw blemishing their record. In the final, Haley Obenshain scored the clinching goal.

13U Boys
The highly anticipated rematch from a group play game, say a different result as Las Vegas Pros Futbol LV Pros 06 (NV)  smashed 6 goals past Boca Jrs LA B2006 Blue (CA-S). In a game completely different than its 2-1 loss in group play, Las Vegas Pros Futbol was out for blood scoring early and often against a Boca Jrs team that played hard but was feeling the effects of yesterday’s extra time victory. Angel Morales scored a brace within the first 10 minutes to set the tone for Las Vegas Pros Futbol and giving him 10 for the tournament.

14U Boys
Downtown LA SC B05 (CA-S), who accepted a late entry into the tournament, proved it belongs by winning the title after a dominating 6-3 win over RSL-AZ Yuma 05 Boys Cetina (AZ). Downtown LA SC was rarely troubled on its way to the title losing one match and needing overtime in one other. In the final, Downtown LA pounced early going up 3 goals in the first 15 minutes. RSL-AZ Yuma tried to mount a comeback with its first goal but was answered by Downtown LA only 5 minutes later. From there each team traded some more goals before the final 6-3 scoreline.

15U Boys
Playing its second CA-S team in two days was not too much of a challenge for Heat FC 04 AS (NV) who beat both to finish the tournament with a perfect record. Milan Academy Gold (CA-S) actually scored first but it wasn’t able to hold on against one of the top teams in the age group. Kevin Menjivar scored for Heat FC bringing his total to 6 in the tournament and tying him for the group lead.

16U Boys
Heat FC 03 AS (NV) won back to back Far West Presidents Cup titles after its win today against AVSC Storm (CA-S). This year’s Heat FC team started slow only winning 1 of its first 3 games but turned it on in the knockout rounds outscoring teams 8-2, including 5 goals in the final. AVSC came into the game undefeated but couldn’t shut down the defending champs in the loss.

17U Boys
Players SC Elite Boys 02 (NV) ‘s scorching form in front of goal continued in the final registering 5 goals for the 3rd straight game after only scoring 5 total in 3 group play games. Despite that goalscoring prowess, Players SC was challenged by a game San Diego SC Academy Navy (CA-S). Players went up 2 goals in the first half before San Diego SC responded to draw the game level at 2 in the 42 minute. Players SC went on to score the next 3 goals and seal the title before a late stoppage time goal from San Diego SC made it 5-3.

18U Boys
After a 4-3 win in yesterday’s Semi-Final, California Rush B01 Cinza (CA-S) scored 4 more goals in today’s final to become champions. Led by a second half hat trick from star player David Ibe, the California attack was too potent for Washington Premier White (WA). Ibe’s 3 goals were enough for him to clinch the the title of top goalscorer in the 18U boys age group with 8.

Notes from 12U National Championships Series finals:

12U Boys
In a back and forth match Heat FC 07 ED (NV) outlasted AC Brea PDA (CA-S) winning on kicks from the mark when the Heat FC goalkeeper buried his penalty just after the AC Brea goalie missed his. Before penalties however, 8 goals were scored. Heat FC came out firing scoring 2 goals in the first 10 minutes before AC Brea answered with 3 of its own. Heat FC scored in the last minute of regulation to send the game to overtime and then promptly scored in the first half of overtime. AC Brea responded with a goal of its own in the second overtime thus sending the match to penalties, where the lengthy shootout needed keepers to decide it.

12U Girls
The all CA-S final ended in a 2-1 win for SD Surf Academy Select G07 (CA-S). SD Surf’s Melanie Barcenas scored a brace to bring her total to 13 goals in 5 games. Her tally was the highest in the 12U girls age group and exactly half of her team’s 26 goals for. Legends FC G07 Pre-Academy (CA-S) tried to respond with a Tori McBride goal but it wasn’t enough to stop SD Surf from claiming the title.
