Top Va. teams meet in Richmond to prepare for Region I, ECNL championships
The Richmond Strikers will be hosting several of the top girls’ teams in Virginia on Saturday, as squads representing the Strikers, Braddock Road YC, VSA Heat, the Fredericksburg Area Soccer Association and FC Virginia gather for friendly matches in preparation for major tests at the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) National Championships and U.S. Youth Soccer Regional Championships later this summer.
Starting at 11 a.m., the Under-15, U-16 and U-17 Richmond Strikers ECNL teams will host the U-15 Va. State Champions VSA Heat, U-16 State Champions BRYC, U-17 State Champions VSA Heat and FASA’s two-time U-15 State Cup finalists. The U-18 and U-17 FCV ECNL teams will also be joining the group in preparation for the ECNL National Championships, held in Waukegan, Ill. over the final week of June.
“These games are a great opportunity for these outstanding teams and their players to prepare for their respective championships,” said Strikers ECNL Director Jay Howell on the club’s website. “We are constantly looking to improve, to challenge our players. Hosting these top teams assists in our creation of a fantastic player development environment.”
