U-17 men’s national team heads to training camp

U.S. Under-17 men’s national team coach Richie Williams named a 40-player roster for a week-long training camp that began Sunday and runs through July 29 at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

The training camp roster features 20 players that were part of the 2012 spring semester at the U-17 Residency Program in Bradenton, Fla., as well as a total of 28 players who have either been a part of the Residency Program or have previously been called into U-17 Men’s National Team camp.

Of the 40 players called into training camp, 30 represent teams from the U.S. Soccer Development Academy, with Chivas USA and the New York Red Bulls each sending three players.

The week-long camp in California is the first time the Williams has called players together since the Copa Saprissa Internacional tournament ended on July 1.

All but four of the players from the U-17 MNT Copa Saprissa Internacional tournament roster are scheduled to make the trip to The Home Depot Center for training camp.

The roster is comprised of players that were born in 1996 or 1997, with the exception of goalkeeper Abraham Romero, the only player on the roster born in 1998.
