The U.S. Men’s National Team hosts five-time FIFA World Cup champion Brazil at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday, May 30, at FedExField in Landover, Md., in the second game of an 18-day stretch head coach Jurgen Klinsmann is treating like a five-game tournament. Wednesday night’s tilt against some of the most creative individual talents in the world will set a record for attendance for an MNT friendly in the D.C. area, and will be broadcast live on ESPN2, ESPN3 and TeleFutura.

USA-SCOTLAND REWIND

• With the 5-1 win, the U.S. has collected five consecutive victories dating back to last year, including three straight shutout wins against Venezuela, Panama and Italy to open the 2012 campaign.
• Landon Donovan netted his third career hat trick while collecting yet another National Team record, making his 125th career start and surpassing the previous record of 124 held by Jeff Agoos.
• Michael Bradley’s spectacular goal from 25 yards out put him into double digits in career scoring for the National Team.
• With an unblemished 4-0-0 record in 2012, this squad is only the second in U.S. history to start a year with four straight wins. The 1998 team started 4-0-0 with victories against Sweden, Cuba, Costa Rica and Brazil.
• The five goals scored on Saturday were the most since the USA’s 6-1 victory against Cuba in World Cup qualifying on Oct. 11, 2008, in Washington, D.C.
• The U.S. has only had one larger margin of victory against a European team, having handed Norway a 5-0 defeat on Jan. 29, 2006, at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
• The crowd of 44,438 at EverBank Field set a record for attendance at a U.S. MNT friendly in the southeast region.

ROSTER NOTES

• Clint Dempsey is coming off a record-setting season for a U.S. international in England, recording his 50th English Premier League goal and setting a single-season mark for league goals scored (17) and goals in all competitions (23). Dempsey scored the lone goal for the USA during its 1-0 win against Italy on Feb. 29 in Genoa. He missed the May 26 match against Scotland because of a groin injury.
• Jermaine Jones leads the U.S. this year in minutes played (270) and assists (3). He scored his second international goal in the match against Scotland, heading home the USA’s fifth on the night. Jones helped Schalke 04 to a third-place finish in the German Bundesliga and a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
• Michael Bradley played in a career-high 34 league games in his first season at Chievo Verona in Italy’s Serie A. Chievo finished in 10th place in the league table – the team’s best finish since it rejoined the top flight in 2008-09.
• Landon Donovan made his return to the National Team for the first time since September of 2011, now having collected 49 goals and 139 caps.
• Saturday’s match was the first for Jose Torres for the U.S. MNT since last September. The Longview, Texas, native missed all subsequent camps because of foot and leg injuries.
• Jozy Altidore finished his first season at AZ Alkmaar with 19 goals in all competitions, 15 in league play and four in the UEFA Europa League.
• Herculez Gomez earned his first international cap with the U.S. National Team since August of 2010 when he entered as a second-half sub against Scotland. Gomez became the first U.S. player to win both an MLS Cup title and Mexican League title as Santos defeated Monterrey in the Liguilla final. Gomez had 19 goals in all competitions for Santos this past season.
• Oguchi Onyewu returned to the lineup for the first time since October of 2011 as a second-half sub for Carlos Bocanegra during the May 26 game against Scotland. Onyewu completed a fantastic season with Sporting Lisbon by competing in the Portuguese Cup final, where they fell 1-0 to Academica.
• Joe Corona is the only player making his first appearance on the MNT roster, and he earned his first cap when playing the final 23 minutes as a second-half sub for Torres against Scotland. The Development Academy product scored four goals for the U.S. U-23 MNT in the 2012 CONCACAF Men’s Olympic Qualifying tournament earlier this year.
• U.S. defender Bocanegra, who earned his 102nd career cap against Scotland, is one of five players on the roster who serve as captain of their club. Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover), Donovan (LA Galaxy) and Clarence Goodson (Brondby) also sport the armband.
• Cherundolo led Hannover to a second-consecutive qualification for the Europa League, the side reaching the quarterfinals in this year’s tournament.
• Terrence Boyd made his first National Team start and second career appearance during the May 26 Scotland match. Boyd had 20 goals for Borussia Dortmund’s second team, scoring a goal in the final to help the team gain promotion to the Third Division.
• Chris Wondolowski leads all MLS goalscorers with 11 goals in 12 games for the San Jose Earthquakes this season.
• Michael Parkhurst and Nordsjaelland clinched the team’s first Danish Superliga crown on Wednesday with a 3-0 victory against Horsens. Parkhurst started and played the full 90 minutes at right back.

USA VS. BRAZIL SERIES

• Brazil has a 15-1-0 record against the USA, with a 31-10 scoring difference. Eleven matches have been decided by only one goal.
• The series debuted on Aug. 17, 1930, with Brazil posting a 4-3 victory in Rio de Janeiro. The two sides would not meet again for more than 61 years, when host Brazil cruised to a 3-0 win on Feb. 26, 1992.
• The U.S. found some sense of progression in the series when they hosted Brazil for the first time on Aug. 2, 1992. The U.S. held Brazil scoreless until Beto’s 77th-minute goal – the lone blemish for goalkeeper Tony Meola and the USA defense during the 1-0 loss. Meola’s four-save effort stood out to former Brazil coach Carlos Alberto Perreira who said this of the future Hall of Famer: “He can play with the big teams in the world.”
• After several years of mostly 1-0 losses to Brazil, the U.S. earned a sensational victory against FIFA’s then top-ranked team on Feb. 10, 1998. Led by Kasey Keller’s 10-save performance and Preki’s 65th-minute goal, the U.S. made headlines with its 1-0 victory in the semifinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup at the Los Angeles Coliseum. Brazil had the possession advantage (57 percent), the shots advantage (21-12) and the shots on goal advantage (10-5). But the USA defied the numbers en route to its first win against Brazil. Brazil entered that match with a 46-1-10 record since the 1994 World Cup.
• One of the most thrilling efforts took place at the Orange Bowl in Miami on July 23, 2003. The U.S. held a 1-0 lead in the second half against Brazil in the semifinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup as Carlos Bocanegra gave the USA the one-goal advantage in the 62nd minute. Brazil fought back to tie the score at 1-1 in the 89th minute on a goal by Kaka, a future FIFA World Player of the Year. Then in overtime, Diego gave the Brazilians the win with his penalty kick conversion in the 98th minute.
• Another barometric Brazil match included the FIFA Confederations Cup Final on June 28, 2009, when the U.S. held a two-goal lead against Brazil for the first time Clint Dempsey finessed a cross just inside the far left post for a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute, and Landon Donovan completed a magnificent counter-attack by maneuvering past his defender, getting the goalkeeper to lean the wrong way and finding the back of the net in the 27th minute to double the U.S. lead. USA supporters saw their range of emotions span the full scale as a promising start turned into three unanswered goals and a Brazil victory.

2012 HALL OF FAME INDUCTIONS: Former U.S. Men’s National Team stars Claudio Reyna, Tony Meola and Veteran inductee Desmond Armstrong, along with Builder inductee and former U.S. Women’s National Team head coach Tony DiCicco, will be inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame on May 30 in Landover, Md. The National Soccer Hall of Fame and U.S. Soccer will hold Induction 2012 presented by Eurosport at FedExField ahead of the U.S.-Brazil game. The ceremony will also include the honoring of longtime Los Angeles Times writer Grahame L. Jones, who was named the recipient of the 2012 Colin Jose Media Award presented by the National Soccer Hall of Fame.

CARLOS CAP BOX: U.S. captain Carlos Bocanegra will be honored for earning 100 caps for the National Team when he receives a cap box prior to kickoff against Brazil. Bocanegra became the 12th male player in U.S. history to achieve that feat when he started in the 3-2 win against Slovenia on Nov. 15, 2011, in Ljubljana.

FRIENDLY AGAINST CANADA, QUALIFYING ON HORIZON: In their final tune-up match before the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying, the U.S. Men take on Canada at 7 p.m. ET on June 3 at BMO Field in Toronto (NBC Sports Network, Univision Deportes Network). It will mark the USA’s first meeting on Canadian soil since Nov. 9, 1997, when the U.S. blanked Canada 3-0 in Vancouver to clinch a spot in the 1998 FIFA World Cup. Following that game, the U.S. opens World Cup qualifying when it takes on Antigua & Barbuda at 7 p.m. ET on June 8 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla. (ESPN, ESPN3, Galavision). The USA has never faced Antigua & Barbuda.

IN THE RECORD BOOKS

• Landon Donovan surpassed Jeff Agoos for the most starts in U.S. history with his 125th start during the USA’s 5-1 victory against Scotland on May 26. Agoos had held the previous record of 124 starts. Donovan also holds career records in goals (49), assists (48) and points (146). The only mark where Donovan is not atop the list is in career appearances, as he sits second with 139 caps behind 2011 National Soccer Hall of Fame inductee Cobi Jones (164).
• U.S. captain Carlos Bocanegra moved into an eighth-place tie with former U.S. MNT goalkeeper Kasey Keller with his 102nd cap. Bocanegra was previously tied for ninth with Earnie Stewart (101).
• Bocanegra is now tied for sixth all-time in career starts with 2012 National Soccer Hall of Fame inductee Tony Meola (97 starts).
• The USA has opened the year with four wins in four games – a feat that previously was accomplished only one other time in 1998. The fourth victory of that 1998 campaign featured the USA’s 1-0 win against FIFA’s top-ranked Brazil in the CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinals on Feb. 10. Preki had the lone U.S. goal and Keller kept Brazil off the scoreboard with an incredible 10-save performance.
• The team’s three consecutive wins outside the USA – dating back to the Nov. 15, 2011 against Slovenia – matches two other stretches (Oct. 17, 2007-March 26, 2008; June 22, 2008-Sept. 6, 2008). A USA win against Canada on June 3 at BMO Field would set a new record.

JURGEN KLINSMANN FACT FILE: Head coach Jurgen Klinsmann is in the midst of his second year and first full calendar year in charge of the U.S. Men’s National Team. Below are some of his past accomplishments as a player and coach.

• Klinsmann was named the U.S. Men’s National Team head coach on July 29, 2011, making him the 35th coach in the history of the program.
• Klinsmann’s record as head coach of the Men’s National Team is 6-4-1, including five straight wins against Slovenia (Nov. 15, 2011), Venezuela (Jan. 21, 2012), Panama (Jan. 25, 2012), Italy (Feb. 29, 2012) and Scotland (May 26, 2012).
• Klinsmann’s U.S. coaching debut was a 1-1 draw against Mexico on Aug. 10, 2011, at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. During Klinsmann’s abbreviated 2011 tenure, opponents outscored the USA by a 7-5 margin. The U.S.’s two victories during the Klinsmann era in 2011 include a 1-0 win against Honduras (Oct. 8) and a 3-2 victory against Slovenia (Nov. 15).
