U.S. Paralympic National Team falls in extra time to Netherlands
CHICAGO (Via U.S. Soccer) – A second half equalizer was not enough for the U.S. Paralympic National Team to overcome a late game-winner from the Dutch as it dropped its quarterfinal match against the Netherlands 2-1 in extra time at the 2015 Cerebral Palsy Football World Championships at St. George’s Park on Wednesday afternoon.
The USA will now play in a placement match and will take on tournament host England on Friday, June 26 at 8 a.m. ET. The game will be streamed live on the official tournament website at http://www.cp2015.com/. The championship game of the World Championships is set for June 28.
The tournament serves as the main qualifier for the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, and after capturing six points in the group stage the USA positioned itself in a good spot to secure its ticket to next year’s event.
