U.S. Soccer announces winter National Coaching School locations and international workshop dates
U.S. Soccer’s Coaching Department will conduct National Coaching Schools for “A”, “B”, “C” and Goalkeeping License Courses throughout the months of January and February in Arizona, California and Florida. Registration for each course will open on Wednesday, Sept. 19, after a pre-registration period for active members of CoachesNet, U.S. Soccer’s official coaches club. Current CoachesNet members will have the first opportunity to register for a winter course beginning Monday, Sept. 17.
U.S. Soccer is transitioning all of its educational courses to accommodate smaller class sizes. The instructor/candidate ratio for January courses will average one instructor per every 12 to 14 candidates.
“We are in the process of making progressive changes to our methodology for coaching development across all of our license levels,” said U.S. Soccer Director of Coaching Development Dave Chesler. “We will begin by offering courses with fewer candidates and increased Instructors – this effectively creates more opportunity for interaction and a candidate-centered environment. Our content is changing rapidly and will include current, reality-based projects and analysis by the candidates.”
With the reduction in the amount of candidates admitted per class, U.S. Soccer will offer additional courses during the months of January and February. The first group of courses will be held Jan. 5-13, 2013, at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., and Grande Sports World in Casa Grande, Ariz.
The second group of courses will be held Jan. 26 – Feb. 3, 2013, at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., and in Lakeland, Fla. The National Goalkeeping License course will run Jan. 27 – Feb.3, 2013, at IMG Academy.
U.S. Soccer will also run an “A” license renewal course from Jan. 26-31, 2013, at The Home Depot Center for current “A” license coaches looking to renew their license. The “A” renewal course is separate from the “A” License course and focuses on the latest trends in soccer.
In addition to the renewal course, “A” license coaches will have an opportunity to take part in the CoachesNet international workshop program. The international workshop program features visits to leading soccer countries throughout the world. Past programs included visits to Argentina, Brazil, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain. The dates for next year’s international workshop have been tentatively set for March 15-23, 2013. The release of the final dates, location, and registration details will be announced later this fall.
Current “A” license coaches may renew their license by attending the “A” renewal course at The Home Depot Center, attending the National Goalkeeping course or attending the international workshop. Coaches who successfully complete one of these educational events will earn eight (8) Continuing Education Units.
Participants at U.S. Soccer’s National Coaching Schools will have an opportunity to earn a nationally recognized license from U.S. Soccer, a member of Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), and the governing body of soccer in all its forms in the United States.
At a course, coaches will interact with the nation’s top-level instructors, including current and former national team, professional and international coaches. The licensing programs are focused on teaching coaches current theoretical and practical knowledge to provide coaches with the ability to improve the every day training environment for elite players.
