U.S. Soccer Foundation adds Nathanson, Slaton to Board of Directors

Washington, DC (Via U.S. Soccer Foundation) – The U.S. Soccer Foundation today announced that David Nathanson, Head of Business Operations at FOX Sports Media Group, and Danielle Slaton, former U.S. Women’s National Team player and Director of the Coaching for Life Academy at Santa Clara University, have been appointed to its board of directors.

Mr. Nathanson and Ms. Slaton join a board comprised of leaders and executives from the public and private sectors.

“We are delighted and honored to welcome Danielle and David to our board of directors,” said Charles Stimson, Chairman of the Board for the Foundation. “Both have strong roots in the soccer community, and are passionate about the game.” He added, “David’s leadership and experience in business and sports media are tremendous assets to our board, and will enable us to grow the Foundation’s reach. And Danielle’s perspective both as a player and coach, combined with her extensive knowledge of how soccer can improve social outcomes, will also help advance the Foundation’s impact.”

“Danielle and David each bring wide-ranging experience and expertise that will further strengthen the outstanding talents that our directors already bring to the Foundation,” said Ed Foster-Simeon, President & CEO of the U.S. Soccer Foundation. “David’s proven leadership in sports media and Danielle’s vast experience both on and off the soccer field will undoubtedly help the Foundation increase the reach and impact of our programs.”

Mr. Nathanson leads strategic planning, rights acquisitions, rights management, mergers and acquisitions and new revenue generation for FOX Sports Media Group. Previously, Mr. Nathanson led the most successful launch of a new channel in U.S. television history as General Manager and Chief Operation Officer for FOX Sports 1 (FS1) and Fox Sports 2 (FS2). Prior to the launch of FS1 and FS2, Mr. Nathanson served as General Manger and Executive Vice President of FOX Soccer, where he helped spearhead FOX Sports’ FIFA World Cup rights acquisition in 2011. Under his leadership, FOX Soccer was the nation’s leading television destination for domestic and international soccer.

Ms. Slaton currently works as the Director of the Coaching for Life Academy at Santa Clara University where she teaches coaches, athletes, and parents about how to integrate life skills development through sports. She is also a sideline reporter for the San Jose Earthquakes and a women’s soccer analyst for NBC, Fox Sports, and the Pac-12 Networks. Ms. Slaton was a member of the U.S. Women’s National Team from 2000-2005, winning a silver medal at the 2000 Olympics and a bronze in the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup. She attended Santa Clara University where she captained the women’s soccer team to the 2001 NCAA National Championship. After she retired from playing, Danielle coached soccer at Northwestern from 2006-2009, where she also earned her Master’s Degree in Sports Administration.
