U.S. Soccer Foundation hosts inaugural natl. training for “Soccer for Success” program
Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Soccer Foundation, the major charitable arm of soccer in the United States, is hosting the inaugural 2012 Soccer for Success National Training at Georgetown University this weekend.
The 2012 Soccer for Success National Training introduces over 150 new and seasoned Soccer for Success coaches to the new program curriculum for the 2012-2013 program year.
Sessions and workshops at the event will focus on behavior management, nutrition and child safety. In addition, coaches will have the opportunity to participate in demonstrations of the curriculum in a live, on-the-field environment.
Soccer for Success is the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s nationally-recognized after-school program that provides children in urban underserved communities with structured physical activity, nutrition education and mentorship – at no cost to their families.
Currently Soccer for Success serves children in 10 cities nationwide and will expand to serve children in 20 cities by the end of the program year.
Organizations including United for D.C., the charitable arm of D.C. United, America SCORES and the Houston Parks and Recreation Department will have coaches in attendance to learn the new curriculum, for implementation in their respective communities.
Additional attendees include Britt McHenry, sports reporter for ABC7/WJLA Monica Gonzalez, ESPN analyst, as well as Ed Foster-Simeon, President & CEO of the U.S. Soccer Foundation.
“The 2012 Soccer for Success National Training is a great opportunity to not only learn the new program curriculum but also exchange best practices with my colleagues in the urban soccer space,” said Michael Vaughan Cherubin, program manager for United for D.C., in a press release. “I’m excited to attend the event and learn from my peers about how to better serve the youth in our community.”
