U.S. U-15 Boys’ National Team falls to Mexico 2-1 at Torneo delle Nazioni
SAVOGNA D’ISONZO, Italy – The U.S. Under-15 Boys’ National Team lost its second game of the Torneo delle Nazioni on Saturday, falling 2-1 to the Mexico U-16 Men’s National Team in Group C play.
The U-15 BNT (0-2-0; 0pts) will finish tournament play against China PR (0-2-0; 0pts) on Sunday.
Mexico grabbed an early advantage as Joaquin Esquivel Martinez was left unmarked on a corner kick in the third minute and headed the ball home to make it 1-0.
The U.S. replied just before the break. Center back Kyle Gruno lofted a long ball over the Mexico back line for striker Lucas Del Rosario to run onto. The Capital Area RailHawks Academy product raced onto the ball and chipped it over Mexico goalkeeper Isai Romero Abraham from outside the box to knot the match at 1-1.
Mexico struck again early in the second half, and Kevin Raul Lara Herrera’s 54th-minute goal after a missed U.S. clearance was enough to earn his side the win.
