U.S. U-16 Women’s Youth National Team completes two-game sweep of Germany

ASCHAFFENBURG, Germany – The U.S. Under-16 Women’s National Team made it two wins in two games against host Germany, winning 4-2 as four different players scored.

The USA won the first game on June 8 by a 2-1 score.

The USA opened the scoring after just six minutes as forward Kyndal Shuler tallied off an assist from Kate Kemmerley. The USA doubled the lead as midfielder Chloe Sadler scored in the 15th minute and the USA made it 3-0 about 10 minutes later on a goal from defender Pearl Cecil.

Seven minutes into the second half midfielder Jaiden Rodriguez scored off an assist from Scottie Antonucci, who tallied in the 2-1 win, and the game was basically put to bed, even though Germany clawed back with goals in the 66th and 89th minutes for the final score line.

The goals were the first at the U-16 international level for Shuler, Cecil and Sadler. Rodriguez’ goal was her fourth for the U-16s after she scored three times at the UEFA Friendship tournament in Turkey in April.

Players born on or after Jan. 1, 2008, are age-eligible for this U-16 WYNT cycle. For this training camp, U.S. head coach Patchy Toledo selected all 2008-birth year players. All players in the U-16 WYNT pool are age-eligible for this year’s FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, set for October/November in the Dominican Republic.
