MEXICO CITY (Via U.S. Soccer) – In its first game of the 2018 Four Nations Tournament, the Under-17 Men’s National Team fell 2-1 to Argentina at the Centro de Alto Rendimiento in Mexico City, Mexico. The squad will look to bounce back tomorrow against the host country before finishing up the tournament on Oct. 7 versus Chile.

Argentina got on the board in the 23rd minute when striker Matias Emanuel Godoy finished from close range.

Heading into the second half down 1-0, the USA responded quickly four minutes in off the foot of Seattle Sounders forward Alfonso Ocampo Chavez.

Attacking down the right flank, second-half substitute Sagir David Arce looked up and saw Ocampo Chavez making a diagonal run across the box. With defenders committing, Ocampo Chavez halted his run to create an opening, to which David Arce fed him through. Played between two Argentina defenders, the pass found Ocampo Chavez’s feet and the 2018 U.S. Soccer Development Academy Champion did the rest, taking a touch before firing a low shot into the back of the net.

After 18 minutes of back and forth play without a score, Los Gauchos put home the game winner. The strike from Matias Damian Palacios would be all Argentina needed to secure the victory.

The U-17 MNT will continue the opportunity to gain valuable international experience in the tournament against Mexico on Friday, Oct. 5.
