CHASSIO, Switzerland (Via U.S. Soccer) – The U.S. Under-17 Women’s National Team defeated the Switzerland Under-19 WNT, 2-1, as forwards Frankie Tagliaferri and Rachel Jones scored in the 32nd and 64th minutes, respectively.

The match, which was played with 40-minute halves, was the USA’s second win over the Switzerland U-19s in three days after a 3-2 victory on May 31.

The opening goal originated from the right side of the field as a cross deflected off the leg of a Switzerland defender and bounced to Tagliaferri. She evaded two defenders and finished low into the corner for her eighth international goal in 20 U-20 caps.

Switzerland, which is preparing for the 2016 UEFA European Women’s Under-19 Championship in Slovakia starting on July 19, pulled a goal back just after halftime through Naomi Mégroz, but Jones got the game-winner with 16 minutes remaining.

Alexa Spaanstra received a pass on the left wing and dribbled to the end line before cutting the ball back through the goal mouth for Jones to finish first-time from close range. It was her first international goal at the U-20 level.

The USA held this training camp in northern Italy as it continues preparations for the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup and traveled over the border to Switzerland for the matches.

The U.S. U-17s, which are undefeated in 10 international games this year, will face Paraguay, Ghana and Japan in Group D player at the 2016 U-17 Women’s World Cup being held from Sept. 30-Oct. 21 in Jordan.
