U.S. U-18 Men’s National Team rallies to draw Denmark in Milk Cup

LIMAVADY, Northern Ireland – The U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team capped off the 2013 Northern Ireland Milk Cup with a 1-1 draw against Denmark. Rubio Rubin scored a game-tying goal in the 74th minute as the USA took third place in the tournament.

Mexico won the event with a 2-0-1 record as the USA’s 1-1 draw on July 29 was Mexico’s only non-victory. Northern Ireland took second place at 2-1-0, the U.S. went 0-1-2 for third and Denmark posted a 0-2-1 record.

With Denmark carrying a 1-0 lead, Rubin tied the score when he pressured goalkeeper Casper Radza on the team’s back pass. Rubin intercepted and hit a low shot into the center of the empty net for the draw and help the USA maintain third place in the Elite standings.

Andreas Bruhn Christensen has Denmark’s lone goal in the 55th minute.

U-18 MNT head coach Javier Perez started goalkeeper Santiago Castaño and defender Trevor Haberkorn, who were both making their first appearances in the tournament. Both players started and went the full 90 minutes.
