U.S. U-20 Men’s Youth National Team heading to Mexico for 2022 Revelations Cup

CHICAGO – The U.S. Under-20 Men’s Youth National Team will head to the 2022 Revelations Cup in Mexico City, Mexico for matches against Peru, Mexico and Paraguay.

The tournament represents the first matches for the U-20 MYNT since its standout performance at the 2022 Concacaf U-20 Championship, where the USA took home its third straight regional title and clinched berths to the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup and the 2024 Olympics.

Head coach Mikey Varas has called up 20 players for the tournament, set for Sept. 18-28. Players born on or after Jan. 1, 2003 are age-eligible for the 2023 U-20 World Cup. The roster features 14 players born in 2003 and six born in 2004.

Broadcast information for the Revelations Cup is still to be confirmed.

Fourteen of 20 players return from the Concacaf U-20 Championship-winning squad, including midfielder Paxten Aaronson, who won the Golden Ball as the tournament’s top player and the Golden Boot as the tournament’s top scorer as well as goalkeeper Chris Brady, who won the Golden Glove as the tourney’s top ‘keeper. Fellow Best XI selections Jalen Neal and Quinn Sullivan also return to the U-20 MYNT.

Defender Johnathan Gomez is the lone player receiving his first U-20 MYNT call-up. Gomez, as well as defender Justin Che, midfielder Kevin Paredes and forward Caden Clark have all previously been called up to the senior USMNT. Gomez earned his first cap with the full team during the USA’s December match vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina, while Clark and Paredes also participated in the training camp prior to that game. Che was called up to the senior squad’s May 2021 training camp before its match vs. Switzerland, but did not play in the match.

Fifteen clubs are represented on the roster, including seven from Major League Soccer. Four players come from the Philadelphia Union, while two each come from Chicago Fire FC and the New York Red Bulls. Seven players are based abroad, plying their trade for clubs in Germany (two players), Belgium, Croatia, England, Portugal and Spain. The players hail from 10 different states, led by five from California.
