MURCIA, Spain (Via U.S. Soccer) – Playing up against a mix of 1997 and 1998 birth year players from France’s Under-21 National Team, the U.S. U-20 Men’s National Team fought hard but came up short in their efforts in the first of a two-game series against Les Bleus. Tab Ramos’ side returns to the Podoactiva Pinatar Arena Football Center in two days for another opportunity to gain valuable international experience against the older French side.
France would find their first goal in the 36th minute when midfielder Jean Victor Makengo’s attempt clanged off the crossbar. Forward Jordan Tell reached well and noded the ball over the line from close range to give France a 1-0 halftime lead.
Les Bleus found their second goal of the day six minutes after the break. Striding up the left flank, defender Romain Perraud cut back into the box where before centering for Tell, who once again finished his chance to secure a brace.
The U-20 MNT will face off against Les Bleus on Friday, March 23, before traveling to Madrid to face Atletico Madrid’s U-21 side.
