U.S. U-20 Women’s National Team falls to Germany 3-0 at 12-Nations Tournament in La Manga, Spain
The U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team fell to Germany 3-0 in its second match of the 12-Nations Tournament in La Manga, Spain, as the Germans scored all three goals in the first half.
Germany opened the scoring just five minutes into the match after the U.S. gave the ball up in its own defensive third and Annabel Jager capitalized for the first of her two goals in the match.
Germany doubled the lead in the 35th minute as the Americans once again lost the ball in a dangerous area. Theresa Panfil dribbled deep into the penalty area and slipped a pass to Jager for the tap-in.
The third goal came in the final minute of the half after U.S. defender Mandy Freeman was called for a foul in the box and sent off for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity. Lina Magull converted the penalty for the final margin.
The USA is in early preparations for qualifying for the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup to be held in Canada.
