(Via U.S. Soccer) – The U.S. Under-23 Men’s National Team began its camp in England with a narrow 1-0 defeat against England at Deepdale Stadium in Preston, England.

A hard fought defensive effort was spoiled when England’s winning goal came after the Young Lions played a quick free kick and beat the recovering U.S. defense down the left side.

England a strong attack, bolstered by a number of Premier League regulars, but for most of the match the U.S. defenders proved equal to their counterparts.

The U.S. offense responded with a handful of strong attacks, with its best chance coming on a blast from Mario Rodriguez that England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford finger-tip saved on a dive.

The U-23’s will conclude their final camp before the CONCACAF Men’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament when they play Qatar at Gigg Lane in Bury, England on sept. 8.
