U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team falls 1-0 against Azerbaijan at AGS Cup in Spain

The U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team had a two-match winning streak snapped as the team conceded an early goal in the second half of a 1-0 loss to Azerbaijan at the AGS Cup on Tuesday.

After back-to-back wins against Morocco and the United Arab Emirates, the U.S. entered the match in good position for a positive result, but a goal from Azerbaijan midfielder Elnur Jafarov in the 47th minute was enough as the U-17s couldn’t come up with the equalizer during the 80-minute match.

Azerbaijan leads the standings after three matches with seven points, while the U.S. and Mexico are tied in second place with six points apiece. Canada, the USA’s next opponent on Thursday, has four points, while Morocco (3) and the UAE (0) round out the standings. The team that finishes with the most points after five matches is crowned champion of the tournament.

The U.S. squares off against Mexico on Saturday, Oct. 6, in its final match of the tournament and one that could potentially decide the champion depending on the outcome of Thursday’s match.

Through three matches, the U.S. U-17 MNT has scored four goals, while conceding two for a 2-1-0 record.
