U.S. Women’s National Team to hold public training session on Dec. 7 at Ford Field in Detroit, Mich.
All U.S. Soccer fans are invited to attend the U.S. Women’s National Team public training session on Friday, Dec. 7, at 5 p.m. ET at Ford Field in Detroit, Mich.
Admission is free and open to the public. U.S. Soccer Supporters Club members will receive premium seating at the public training session.
The U.S. will face the China PR on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 1:30 p.m. ET in the eighth match of the U.S. WNT Fan Tribute Tour.
The USA is holding the Fan Tribute Tour in celebration of the team’s 2012 London Olympics gold medal triumph against 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup champion Japan. The win marked the third straight gold medal and fourth overall for the U.S. in Olympic competition. The team went undefeated at 6-0-0 for the first time at an Olympic tournament, which included a thrilling come-from-behind overtime win in the semifinal against Canada on Aug. 6 and Carli Lloyd’s two-goal performance to lead the USA to a 2-1 win against Japan in the gold medal match on Aug. 9.
The U.S. has recorded a 4-0-2 mark on the Fan Tribute Tour, opening with an 8-0 victory against Costa Rica on Sept. 1 at sold-out Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester, N.Y. The USA proceeded to win back-to-back matches against Australia – a 2-1 victory on Sept. 16 in Carson, Calif., followed by a 6-2 win on Sept. 19 at sold-out Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo., in Pia Sundhage’s final game as U.S. WNT head coach. The team then tied in back-to-back matches against FIFA No.2-ranked Germany, 1-1 at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Ill., and 2-2 in East Hartford, Conn. In Portland, the WNT secured a 5-0 victory in the first of two matches against the Republic of Ireland.
U.S. Soccer announced on Oct. 30 that former Australia Women’s National Team coach Tom Sermanni was named the new head coach of the U.S. WNT. Sermanni will officially begin his tenure as the WNT head coach on Jan. 1, 2013. U.S. Soccer Women’s Development Director Jill Ellis, who was on the bench for the USA’s victory against the Irish, will coach the team for the last five matches of the Fan Tribute Tour.
