UNC Wilmington women’s soccer team signs German defender Sophie Trepohl

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNC Wilmington women’s soccer head coach Chris Neal has announced the addition of Sophie Trepohl to the Seahawks’ roster for the 2021 season.

Trepohl, a 5-6 defender from Frankfurt, Germany, joins a group of seven student-athletes who signed a National Letter of Intent with the program in November.

“We are very excited to add another quality international student-athlete to our squad,” said Neal. “Sophie is a very skilled, smart and athletic player with tremendous experience at the 2nd Bundesliga and international youth levels. During the recruiting process, we really got to know her and we feel she is going to be a great teammate and compliment to the existing roster.”

Trepohl joins the Seahawks after playing for Eintracht Frankfurt II of the 2nd Bundesliga. In addition, she was a member of multiple Germany youth national teams in the U-16 to U-19 age groups. With Germany, Trepohl competed in a variety of events, including the UEFA International Development Tournament, Nordic Cup and La Manga International Friendlies.

Trepohl was also a two-time recipient of the U-18 State Cup and earned the U-16 State Cup in 2017 with Hessen.
