University of Maryland men’s soccer announces pair of new signings
COLLEGE PARK, Md. – University of Maryland men’s soccer head coach Sasho Cirovski announced the addition of Hunter George and William Kulvik to the 2021 squad.
“I’m happy to have Hunter and William joining us for the 2021 season,” Cirovski said. “Both players will just enhance the strong side we have returning from last season and I’m excited to see how they integrate themselves into the squad.”
Information on both players can be found below. Maryland opens its 2021 season on Aug. 26 at Ludwig Field.
Hunter George | Forward | Lincoln, Calif. | San Diego State | Elk Grove Charter School
At San Diego State: (2020/21)…appeared in seven matches with four starts…(2019) appeared in 16 matches and made six starts… Was a Pac-12 honorable mention selection…led the team with five goals scored, the most by an Aztec true freshman since 2014…his 10 points tied for the second most on the team…had a team-high two game-winning goals…played 878 minutes, most among SDSU freshmen…attempted 27 shots, putting 12 on frame, the shot on goal percentage on the team among players with at least 20 shots…scored two goals at UNLV…also scored goals against Oregon State, Brown and UCLA.
Before College: A four-star recruit ranked as the top player in the Northern California/Hawai’i region…ranked No. 33 in the TDS IMG Academy 150 and considered the No. 11 forward in the nation…played for Sacramento Republic FC of the USL on an ‘Academy Players on Professional Team’ contract, which are designed to preserve players’ amateur status…led the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Northwest Conference in 2018 with 24 goals, earning him selection on the league’s Best XI…was called up to three camps with the U-18 U.S. Men’s National Team.
Personal: Son of Scott and Noelle George…had two uncles that won national championships at UCLA…has two sisters, Cassidy and Mackenzie…Mackenzie is an All-SEC player at Tennessee.
Sasho on Hunter: “We are excited for Hunter to make his mark on the Big Ten as he is an extremely gifted attacking player who can shine in wide areas as well as centrally. Hunter’s ability off the dribble to unbalance opponents and create opportunities is what is so enticing about his play. As a best XI with Sacramento Republic FC, he was dominant in the USSDA and carried it on at SDSU, being named All-Pac-12 honorable mention as a freshman. His fearless mentality to push forward and make plays will add ideas to our attack and he will be a great addition to the class.”
William Kulvik | Center Back | Baerum, Norway | Stabaek IF
Before Maryland: Played for Stabaek IF and the Norwegian U-17 National Team…2x Norwegian champion with Stabaek in 2017 and 2018…was the development player of the year in 2017 and selected as the NF academy player of the year in 2016…son of Bjorn and Sofi Kulvik…father played second division soccer as a goalkeeper…has two siblings Jonathan and Sebastian.
Sasho on William: “William is a gifted, athletic and skilled defender coming from one of the top Norwegian academies in Stabaek IF. He has proven to be successful through his development with Stabaek IF, winning championships and individual awards. He has the versatility to play anywhere in the backline, with his two good feet and great passing range. His experience with the Norwegian U-17 National Team will translate well to College Park, and we can’t wait to see him on Ludwig Field.”
