ECNL and Girls Academy standouts highlight Virginia’s recruiting class

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia women’s soccer team will welcome six incoming freshmen to the program for the 2021-22 academic year, it was announced by head coach Steve Swanson on Friday (June 25).

The freshman class features six players, including three players ranked in the top 200 nationally in the IMG Academy rankings by Top Drawer Soccer. Joining the Cavaliers are: Kendra “Kiki” Maki, Charlotte McClure, Camryn Miller, Degen Miller, Ally Reynolds and Madeline Simpson.

“We are excited to finally welcome this year’s class to Virginia after such an unusual and unprecedented year,” Swanson said. “In addition to bringing a collective technical skill set and athleticism to the team, they also fit perfectly into the team culture as they all are hard workers, leaders and quality individuals, who put the team first. We feel within this group we will have some players who are more than capable of impacting our program right away and in the years ahead. We also are excited that this class will benefit from the experience of playing with a strong corps of returning players, including several seniors who have opted to return this fall”

The incoming group of newcomers joins a returning roster of 26 players who helped the Cavaliers advance to the College Cup last season and finish fourth nationally in the final rankings of the season. It was the program’s 27th consecutive NCAA Tournament berth and 33rd overall. The College Cup appearance was the third under head coach Steve Swanson and it was the fourth semifinal appearance in program history. Virginia finished the year with a 14-4-3 record and closed the year with four straight shutouts on the run through the College Cup.
