University of Washington star Ethan Bartlow signs Generation adidas contract
SEATTLE – After one of the best sophomore years in University of Washington history, Ethan Bartlow has signed a Generation adidas contract with Major League Soccer, entering him into the January 21 MLS SuperDraft. Bartlow is the first Husky to earn a Generation Adidas contract since Cristian Roldan entered MLS.
Generation Adidas contracts are awarded to the most outstanding underclassmen in college soccer each year who have proven themselves ready for professional soccer. Bartlow is just the fifth player in the country to earn a Generation adidas contract this season.
“We are very proud of Ethan,” said head coach Jamie Clark. “He has realized his potential by making the most of his time at UW. He’s accomplished an incredible amount in just two seasons here at Washington, and we feel fortunate to have worked with him throughout this time. Ethan has been surrounded by great teammates who have pushed him and supported him throughout his time at UW, and our whole Husky family will all be rooting for him as he takes his next step in his soccer journey.”
Last season, Bartlow was a driving force of the stout Husky defense, becoming the first Washington defender ever to win Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year. Bartlow was an All-American Second Team selection, just the fourth Husky defender to ever earn All-American honors. He started 20 games as a sophomore and 15 times he played every minute of the game, including the final seven games of the 2019 seasons. Bartlow had five goals and 11 total points in 2019. In the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Bartlow scored his first career brace, leading the Huskies to the NCAA Quarterfinals with their 4-1 win over Marshall.
Bartlow started all 38 games in his Husky career. In that time, Washington had 22 shutouts and outscored its opposition 70-26. In two seasons, Bartlow had 15 points, all while playing defense for the Huskies.
If Bartlow is drafted, this will be the 11th consecutive year that a Husky has been selected in the MLS SuperDraft. During Jamie Clark‘s 11 seasons as Husky head coach, Washington has had 21 players drafted by MLS.
