US Club Soccer announces return of id2 program with new format for 2021

CHARLESTON, S.C. – After a brief hiatus due to COVID-19, US Club Soccer announced the return of its id2 programming and its new format for 2021.

Free to all participants, the id2 Program is an opportunity for players to be identified, scouted and developed through a progression of events offered by US Club Soccer. These events include regional selection events and national training camps, culminating in the selection of an id2 National Selection Team for additional developmental experiences.

US Club Soccer will host approximately 10 regional-based id2 Selection events from May to October 2021. These events will consist of one-day programs that will include scouted tactical training sessions followed by 11v11 match play.

Selected players will advance from the regional events to participate in an id2 National Training Camp where 18 players will be chosen to make up the id2 National Selection Team.

The new format for 2021 will allow for more events, creating additional scouting opportunities and ultimately offer more players a chance at these developmental experiences.

“US Club has persevered through an incredibly difficult year,” said Tricia Taliaferro, id2 Girls Program Director. “The 2021 format will allow us the opportunity to scout more players in their own training environment and in more territories across the country. We are excited to get the program re-launched and believe this will create a better experience for the players, coaches and directors.”

This year’s eligible participants include boys born in 2008 and girls born in 2007. Player selection is based on technical ability, initiative, tactical awareness/soccer IQ, personality/winning mentality, and coordination/athleticism.

The events will be free for attendees and will not be restricted to club or member affiliation.

Since its inception, the id2 Program has continued to see its alumni succeed on junior national teams, senior national teams, international club teams and more. Some of the most notable alumni include: Christian Pulisic, Lindsey Horan, Tim Weah, Catarina Macario and Tyler Adams, to name a few.
