US Club Soccer’s id2 National Selection Boys Team splits doubleheader in Scotland

GLASGOW, Scotland – US Club Soccer’s id2 National Selection Boys Team split its doubleheader Sunday afternoon at the Glasgow Rangers Training Facility, losing, 1-0, to Kilmarnock FC and defeating Rangers FC, 3-1.
The mini-tournament was organized locally with the three teams playing each other over the afternoon in games consisting of two 25-minute halves. It also served as the finale to the 2025 id2 National International Tour in Scotland with the ’11 boys squad earning a 2-1-1 (W-L-T) record.
The first match for the American delegation was a cruel reminder that time of possession doesn’t necessarily dictate the final score. Although the id2 boys controlled the ball for most of the game, the team could not find the back of the net. Kilmarnock FC scored in the 28th minute to break the scoreless tie and give the Scottish side the 1-0 victory.
Ten minutes later, the id2 National Selection team returned to the field to face Rangers FC in another 50-minute contest. Francisco Diaz (Bloomingdale Lightning) scored in the 7th minute, capping a commanding run down the field. Dylan Gaitan (Florida Kraze Krush) added a goal of his own in the 18th minute, assisted by Diaz. In the 27th minute, Diaz converted a penalty kick to increase the advantage to 3-0. The Rangers FC team wouldn’t be blanked, though, scoring in the 41st minute. That 3-1 scoreboard held to the final whistle.
The 2025 id2 National Selection boys team faced four worthy challengers in Scotland:
- April 23 vs. Dundee United FC
- April 24 vs. Glasgow Celtic Academy
- April 27 vs. Kilmarnock FC
- April 27 vs. Glasgow Rangers FC
These host clubs demonstrated unique training styles and developmental experiences that the id2 National Selection team – players and coaches – experienced first-hand. Cultural immersion weren’t limited to matches and training sessions, though; the American delegation also attended a pair of professional games and toured the famous Celtic FC stadium.
The 2025 id2 National Selection International Tour (boys) began April 20 with a day-and-a-half domestic camp in New Jersey before flying to Edinburgh and being based in Glasgow. The tour officially concludes April 28, as the delegation returns to the United States. This trip also represented the final progression of the current id2 age group cycle targeting players born in 2011.
The id2 National Selection girls squad recently completed its international tour of France, facing three opponents in Paris and Lyon. To recap the girls trip, please visit the respective web page and browse Instagram for video and photo content.
