U.S. U-18 Men’s National Team downs Russia 5-3

PILSEN, Czech Republic (Via U.S. Soccer) – The U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team defeated Russia 5-3 to advance to the 2016 Vaclav Jezek Tournament final on Aug. 20 against Czech Republic.

The USA started the game off well with two first half goals coming from Griffin Dorsey in the 10th minute and Paxton Pomykal in the 31st minute to lead Russia 2-0 at halftime.

The U.S. tallied early in the second half as Jose Carranza found the back of the net in the 52nd minute. Just six minutes later, Ivan Ignatev netted Russia’s first goal of the match, but a mere three minutes later, the USA earned an own goal to give them the 4-1 lead.

Russia narrowed the scoreline after earning two goals in three minutes from Danill Utkin and Ilya Mazurovm in the 78th and 81st minutes, trailing the U.S. 4-3. The USA’s Nebiyou Perry sealed the game with a goal in the 88th minute, earning the U.S. the 5-3 victory.

The USA will face host nation Czech Republic in the title match on Aug. 20.
