US Youth Soccer 2019 National Champions crowned in Overland Park, Kan.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (July 28, 2019) — The remaining champions were crowned Sunday at the 2019 US Youth Soccer National Championships at the Scheels Overland Park Soccer Complex in Overland Park, Kan.

The country’s top teams in the 14U through 19 Boys and Girls age groups met to conclude the final stage of the 2019 US Youth Soccer National Championship Series. Sunday’s final matchups featured teams who earned the right to play for their respective National titles through success in group play and victories in their semifinal games.

Among the returning National Champions, only 16U Boys LVSA 03 Silver (NV) earned its second consecutive National Championship title when it defeated Beadling 2003 South Red (PA-W), 2-0, in a rematch of the 15U Boys 2018 National Championship final.

17U Boys Solar 02 Castro (TX-N) defeated defending National Champions, Arlington SA 2002 Red (VA), after a scoreless first half, Jackson Castro scored in the 62nd minute, nothching the game’s lone goal as Solar held on to earn the victory.

In the first game of the day, the 19U Boys National Championship final was played, as 19U Boys Lehigh Valley United 2000 Black (PA-E) claimed the James P. McGuire Cup, repeating what their club’s 19U counterparts did in 2013 on the same stage when Nationals was last held in Overland Park.

“To go out on top is an amazing feeling,” said LVU goalkeeper Dylan Smith. “We knew it was going to be a battle with them, it always is. They weren’t going to let this go easily. It was a long, hard-fought game, but hearing the whistle blow and the guys run out is something I don’t even know how to describe it.The history of this trophy is incredible. It is the oldest trophy in youth sports so to have that home with us is certainly remarkable. It is special.”

Highlights from Sunday’s final matches…

14U Girls: Lou Fusz Geerling 05 (MO) 1-2 D’Feeters 05 Black (TX-N)
D’Feeters 05 Black (TX-N) held off a late push from Lou Fusz Geerling 05 (MO) to earn a 2-1 win to capture the 14U Girls National title. The North Texas side hit on a quick counter attack that finished with Shanti Weddington receiving a threaded pass behind the back line and finishing inside the left post — putting D’Feeters up, 1-0. In the 27th minute, a Brinlee Weir free kick hit off the crossbar, and Theresa McCullough headed the floating ball into the net to double the D’Feeters’ lead. Lou Fusz pulled within a goal in the 54th minute, as Brooke Cattoor got on the end of a bouncing long ball and volleyed it around the keeper to cut her team’s deficit to 2-1. However, D’Feeters hung on for the final 15 minutes of action to secure the victory and lift the National Championship trophy.

15U Girls: FC Revolution Dynamo (PA-E) 1-4 SC Waukesha 04 Blue (WI)
After falling behind early, SC Waukesha 04 Blue (WI) scored four consecutive goals to earn a 4-1 victory over FC Revolution Dynamo (PA-E). Dynamo struck first in the sixth minute when Taylor Mentzer muscled her way into the box and finished a close range shot on the keeper. Just four minutes later, Waukesha leveled on almost an identical goal. The ball bounced toward the endline and was picked up by Zoe Hevey who walked in from a tight angle and finished her chance. Waukesha took the lead in the 31st minute after a big scramble on a corner kick. The ball bounced around, was saved off the line by a defender and then snuck over the line for the goal and the Wisconsin lead. Waukesha increased its lead heading into the halftime when Felicity Deboer got on the end of a cross and finished her chance. Wisconsin scored the game’s last goal just eight minutes into the second half as Hevey found Budish with a through ball for a goal. Wisconsin took its 4-1 advantage through the final whistle to claim the 15U Girls National title.

16U Girls: Legends IE (CA-S) 1-2 Lou Fusz 03 Blue (MO)
Lou Fusz 03 Blue (MO) pulled out a narrow 2-1 win over Legends IE (CA-S) to be named 16U Girls National Champions. Legends struck first with a goal from Hannah Bennett off a corner just five minutes into the game. Lou Fusz answered just 10 minutes later after Chloe Netzel dribbled past the defenders and shot one past the goalkeeper, sending the game to halftime with a 1-1 draw. Madelyn Smith fired a shot past the goalkeeper from just outside the 18-yard box for the eventual game-winning goal for Lou Fusz. After 80 minutes of play, Lou Fusz held on to the one goal lead to earn the 16U girls crown.

17U Girls: Cleveland FC 02 (OH-N) 6-2 Pipeline 02 Pre-Academy Spirit (MD)
Cleveland FC 02 (OH-N) is taking home the 17U Girls title after a 6-2 win against Pipeline 02 Pre-Academy Spirit (MD). Morgan Pentz began the scoring early in the 14th minute with a goal directly off a corner kick to put Cleveland on the board. The lead was doubled just seven minutes later with a goal from Kylie Fitzgerald after a through ball from Haley Anspach. After taking a two-goal lead to halftime, Anspach put Cleveland ahead by three goals just seven minutes into the second half after forcing a turnover in its defensive end of the field. Five minutes later, Mary Felicia Santelli added to the scoresheet off a through ball. Baylee DeSmit brought Pipeline back within three goals just four minutes later after converting a penalty kick. Cleveland jumped back out to a four-goal lead six minutes later following Anspach’s second goal of the day, a strike from the top of the 18-yard box. In the 82nd minute, DeSmit scored her second goal of the day to add a second for Pipeline. Victoria Lyncha capped off the scoring for Cleveland in the final minute of play with her first goal just two days after being cleared to play following a year hiatus due to injury. It was an emotional ending for Cleveland as they walked away as the 17U Girls National Champions.

“Getting cleared two days before the National final, I was so excited,” said Cleveland’s Victoria Lyncha. “I haven’t played in a year so getting to step on the field was a dream of mine. I knew that I just had to be the biggest supporter and come out on the field and play my heart out if I got the chance. Otherwise, I had to be the biggest supporter on the bench and keep them going.”

18U Girls: 01 Lady Lobos Rush Premier (TN) 1-2 Premier Navy 2001 (MD)
After coming up short last year in the semifinals, Premier Navy 2001 (MD) claimed the 18U Girls National Championship with a 2-1 win over 01 Lady Lobos Rush Premier (TN) in Sunday’s final. Premier Navy generated pressure throughout the early portion of the match and took a lead in the 12th minute. Madison Carr got to a flicked on cross from the left wing and hammered a left-footed shot high and past the keeper to put the Maryland side in front. Carr netted her second goal of the game later in the half to put Premier Navy in control. However, Elizabeth Slavinsky pulled a goal back for the Lady Lobos in the 75th minute — causing some anxious moments in the final quarter-hour of play for Premier Navy. The Maryland side managed to fend off the late push from Lady Lobos to secure the 2-1 win and National title.

19U Girls: Lou Fusz Elam (MO) 1-9 Celtic FC 00 Premier (UT)
Celtic FC 00 Premier (UT) took care of business in the 19U Girls final, taking down Lou Fusz Elam in commanding fashion with a 9-1 victory on its way to becoming the first ever Utah team to win a National Championship. Celtic wasted no time to begin its scoring with a goal just 13 minutes into play from Anna Pickering. Nine minutes later, Tara Warner doubled the Celtic lead with a goal of her own. Kathryn Schirmer joined the scoring with a goal just four minutes after Warner and added her second score of the day six minutes later, putting Celtic ahead by four goals. After taking a four-goal lead to halftime, Brecken Mozingo scored just three minutes into the second half, quickly putting Celtic ahead by five goals. In the 74th minute, Celtic went up by six goals after a goal from Samantha Brady. Lou Fusz broke its scoring drought in the 85th minute when Jessica Preusser found the back of the net. A minute later, Schirmer completed her hat trick with her third goal of the game. Megan Astle got in on the scoring just two minutes later, giving Celtic an 8-1 lead. Rebecca Olsen capped-off the scoring for Celtic in the final minute of play. Seven different Celtic players scored to lead Celtic to its National title.

14U Boys: Libertyville FC 1974 Elite (IL) 3-0 STA 2005 (NJ)
Libertyville FC 1974 Elite (IL) secured a 3-0 win against STA 2005 (NJ) to secure the 14U Boys National title. After a scoreless first half, Libertyville took a 40th-minute lead when Miguel Garcia received a pass at midfield, beat the final defender and slotted his shot just inside the left post to put Libertyville in front. The Illinois side doubled its lead when August Lombardo pressured the STA back line into a turnover and finished inside the right post in the 53rd minute. Zachary Hult capped the win with an insurance goal in the final minute, as Libertyville held on for the shutout to end its week with a clean sheet and the 14U Boys National Championship.

15U Boys: PA Dominion 04 (PA-E) 0-2 Real Jersey FC (NJ)
After falling just short in last year’s final, Real Jersey FC (NJ) defeated PA Dominion 04 (PA-E), 2-0, to claim the 2019 15U Boys National Championship title. The two teams played to a scoreless first half before Real JFC took the lead as Cade McGrath burned by the PA Dominion defense in a solo effort from midfield. McGrath’s run took him in 1v1 on the keeper and he made no mistakes in finishing his chance. Real double its advantage just five minutes later after a mistake in the back set him up for his chance. A misplayed clearance bounce towards net and Milton Jones pounced on the effort, dribbled around the keeper and finished his chance. Real held through the final whistle to claim the 15U Boys National Championship crown.

16U Boys: LVSA 03 Silver (NV) 2–0 Beadling 2003 South Red (PA-W)
In a rematch of last year’s National final, LVSA 03 Silver (NV) recorded a 2-0 shutout victory against Beadling 2003 South Red (PA-W) to earn the 16U boys National Championship crown. The game went scoreless for 40 minutes with neither team being able to find goal in the first half. LVSA struck with a goal from Alan Lopez in the 59th minute off a rebound. In the 72nd minute, LVSA received an insurance goal from Aaron Ulloa Tapia after controlling the ball in the box following a Beadling turnover in its defensive end of the field. LVSA held on to the two-goal lead to claim the championship title.

17U Boys: Solar 02 Castro (TX-N) 1-0 Arlington SA 2002 Red (VA)
Solar 02 Castro (TX-N) took down reigning National Champion Arlington SA 2002 Red (VA) with a, 1-0, shutout to earn the 17U Boys National Championship. It was a struggle to find the net in the first half as the game went to halftime tied at zero a piece. The scoring drought remined for much of the second half, until Jackson Castro fired one past the goalkeeper from the top of the 18-yard box to put Solar on the board with a goal in the 62nd minute. Solar maintained its one goal lead through the final whistle to top the reigning champions and be crowned the 2019 17U Boys National Champions.

18U Boys: PPA KSA 01 Pro-Profile (GA) 7-0 Solar 01 Stricker (TX-N)
PPA KSA 01 Pro-Profile (GA) gained strength as the week went on and capped a run to the 18U Boys National title with a decisive win over Solar 01 Stricker (TX-N). Deedson Vixamar made a well-timed run into the center of the box and slotted home a shot to put KSA up, 1-0. Vixamar was part of a swift passing move from the left wing that ended with Jerry Desdunes scoring his first of two first-half goals, as KSA went into halftime up, 3-0. Desdunes scored thrice more in the second half to go along with another strike from Vixamar, as the Georgia side pulled away to capture the National Championship.

19U Boys: Lehigh Valley United 2000 Black (PA-E) 1-0 Baltimore Celtic SC 00 (MD)
Lehigh Valley United 2000 Black (PA-E) played spoiler to a Baltimore Celtic SC 00 (MD) three-peat attempt by claiming the 19U Boys Pete McGuire Cup with a thrilling 1-0 shutout performance in overtime. The game began slow as each team was feeling out the game tactically. There were few scoring chances in the first half as each team locked down defensively. The first opportunity came for Lehigh Valley with 10 minutes left in the half but was saved by Baltimore. After a back and forth first half of play, the teams went to halftime tied at zero. In the second half, the challenge to find the back of the net continued, leading to a scoreless 90 minutes of play and overtime. Lehigh Valley scored the game winner in 96th minute into overtime to put them ahead with a goal from Luke McMahon as he finished from close range off a free kick opportunity. Lehigh Valley was able to hold on to the narrow lead to claim its first 19U Boys title since 2013, the last time National Championships were in Overland Park, Kan.

The National Champions emerged on top in the tournament, which featured US Youth Soccer Regional Champions in the 13U through 19U Boys and Girls age groups, as well as the US Youth Soccer National League qualifiers in the 14U through 18U Boys and Girls age groups to complete the field of 104 teams.
