US Youth Soccer Far West Regional Championships – Day 2 Recap

BOISE, Idaho — The 2019 US Youth Soccer Far West Regional Championships continued Tuesday at the Simplot Sports Complex in Boise, Idaho.

More than 210 games have been completed, and tomorrow’s action will decide the 112 teams moving on to the quarterfinal round.

Regional winners of the 13U through 19U age groups earn a berth to the 2019 US Youth Soccer National Championships, which will be played July 22-28 at the Overland Park Soccer Complex in Overland Park, Kan.

The US Youth Soccer National Championships will consist of US Youth Soccer Regional Champions in the 13U through 19U Boys and Girls age groups, as well as the US Youth Soccer National League qualifiers in the 14U through 19U Boys and Girls age groups to complete the field of teams.

A few notes from today’s games: 

13U Girls
An early Albion SC LV 06 G Academy AS (NV) goal started off a strong performance by Kerrigyn Lynarn as she score a goal in the ninth minute against Rio Rapids 06 Girls (NM). Jordan Womack of Albion placed the ball in the corner of the net in the 25th minute to lead her team to a 2-0 lead at halftime. Albion continued to control the game with two more goals in the second half. Riley Renteria scored in the 50th minute and Jordyn Farrer added her own in the 64th. Albion will go into Wednesday’s game in second place in its respective group.

13U Boys 
A good back and forth match ended with a Sparta 06 JK (UT), 2-1, comeback win over AUFC 06 (NM). After a New Mexico corner was swung in and cleared by the Utah defense, the rebound bounced around inside the 18-yard box before being finished by Ivan Moore in the 10th minute. Utah answered quickly after a great individual effort by Justin Roberts. He beat multiple defenders off the dribble before finishing from close range.

Utah came out firing in the second half requiring AUFC’s keeper, Leopoldo Gutierrez, to make multiple saves that included one from point blank range and a diving save after a long range shot. Utah’s Nahuel Batalla scored the game winner finishing a corner kick into the side netting for the, 2-1, win.

14U Girls
Snohomish United 05 Black (WA) clinched first place within their group with a win on Tuesday against Rush 05 (HI). The offensive effort was spearheaded by Kirsten Crane with two goals in the first half. Crane’s first goal would came off a penalty kick when the opposing goalkeeper made a hard tackle inside the box in the. Snohomish would find the goal again right before halftime with an aerial goal from a corner kick by Crane for her second of the match. The Rush 05 team almost pulled one back in the 42nd minute but the shot was saved by the Snohomish keeper. Snohomish now plays Cheyenne Sting Gold 05 (WY) on Wednesday on the last day of group play.

14U Boys 
Imperial Valley United FC (CA-S) is one of many teams that secured its first victory on the second day of the Far West Regionals. Enrique Gomez Avila of Imperial Valley started his two goal performance in just the eighth minute. Imperial Valley doubled its lead in the 35th minute with a goal from Issaias Quevedo. The teams began a back and forth struggle which resulted in multiple scoring opportunities but neither side could find a final finish. Imperial Valley continued to control the game and added an additional goal in the 51st minute from Enrique Gomez Avila – his second of the game.The lone consolation goal from the Broomfield Blast SC 05 Boys Prestige (CO) came via Lucas Montera in the final minute. Imperial Valley held on for the, 3-1, win.

15U Girls
SC Sporting Green 04 Green (CA-N) would secure the top of their group with a, 3-2, win over Eastside FC 04 Red (WA). Giselle Lirios Ramosfrom SC Sporting started the game off with the first goal in just the fourth minute. Eastside FC quickly responded with a goal from Madelyn Davidson less than 10 minutes later. Kennedy Schoennauer regained the lead for her team in the in the 21st minute with a goal to make it 2-1. Eastside FC’s Arabella Pickett tied the game in the 55th minute but Laundry Schoennauer scored late to seal the win for Sporting.

16U Boys
Barca Academy 03 (AZ)  sits at the top of the table after Tuesday’s game against New Mexico Rush 03 (NM). It was a hard fought game in the first half with no team able to find the back of the net. After the scoreless half, Barca Academy unleashed a relentless attack in the second half of the game which resulted in six total goals. Yorgie Sanchez of Barca Academy started the scoring in the 41st minute when he found a finish off of a corner kick. Mason Blatner of New Mexico Rush was called into action to make some big saves to fend off the Barca attackers but the attack was too much for the defense to handle. Adrian Sanchez added two to bring it to 3-0 before New Mexico pulled one back thanks to Lamar Bynum. The comeback attempt was short lived as Victor Rodriguez and Ocean Salari scored before Sanchez finished his hat trick to make it 6-1 at the final whistle.

16U Girls
Arsenal Colorado Academy 2003 (CO) secured its second victory of the week, this time over 03G EBU Bay Oaks Gold (CA-N). The first scoring opportunity arrived in favor of Arsenal Colorado Academy in the 17th minute as the ball entered the six-yard box and a scramble ensued but Arsenal could not find the back of the net. Arsenal and EBU Bay Oaks continued to have a battle of attrition in the midfield until stoppage time. Allison Ressler started off the quick scoring spree with a strike on the left side of the goal making the score 1-0 before Stella Straubing added another goal in stoppage time to make it 2-0 going into halftime. Arsenal held off Bay Oaks and secure second place in its current group with the 2-0 victory.

17U Boys
Santa Clara Sporting 02 Green (CA-N) secured its first victory of the tournament with a, 3-1, win over HEAT FC 02 GR (NV). Heat FC had an opportunity early on after a scramble in the six-yard box but the ball was secured by the Santa Clara goalkeeper, Anthony FloresTamba Mattiaof Sporting scored first with an assist from Noah Robertson with a one-two pass inside the 18-yard box. Heat FC scored its first goal the game in the 26th minute with a rocket from Alex Mejia. After multiple chances from both sides, Santa Clara was awarded a penalty kick after a hard tackle inside the box. Diego Baca finished the attempt to make it 2-1 at the end of the first half. Jaeson Gonzalez scored a into the top left corner late in the game to bring the final score to 3-1.

18U Boys
Boise Timbers PA-ES (ID) vs. SC del Sol 01 (AZ)
SC del Sol 01 (AZ) would secure its first win on Tuesday with a, 4-0, victory over the 01 Boise Timbers PA-ES (ID). Del Sol wasted no time and took the lead in the just the fourth minute thanks to a goal from Nicholas Bourgeois. Bourgeois found the net again in the 15th minute to double the advantage. In the 65th minute, Shammai Camara made it 3-0 before Bourgeois ended the game with a hat trick in the 90th minute.

18U Girls
The Spokane Sounders 01A (WA) secured its second victory on Tuesday with a, 4-0, win over Idaho Rush 01 Premier (ID). Emmy Moore of the Spokane Sounders ignited her team’s quick start with a goal in the seventh minute. Chloe Gellhaus added another goal to the Sounder’s lead midway through the first half and then Chelsea Le was able to slip the ball past the goalkeeper and defender to make it a 3-0 game at halftime. The second half started at a slower pace but at the 61st minute mark, Kailyn LaBrosse netted another goal to end the game bringing the final score to 4-0.
