US Youth Soccer Frontier Conference season kicks off for 13U Boys and Girls Divisions
FORT WORTH, Texas — The 2020-21 US Youth Soccer Frontier Conference season kicked off for the 13U Boys and Girls Divisions over the weekend, as 16 North Texas and South Texas teams competed at Gateway Park in Fort Worth, Texas.
All of the matchups saw teams put in strong performances as they attempted to get an early jump in the Frontier Conference standings. Like the 14U-19U Divisions, the 13U Boys and Girls teams in the Frontier Conference are competing for qualification into the 2021 USYS Southern Regional Championships, as well as qualification into the 2021-22 USYS National League Playoffs.
In the 13U Boys age group, D’Feeters Kicks SC 08B Lopez (TX-N) started the season strong with a pair of wins over the weekend.
“I believe the boys had a good winter training session,” D’Feeters Kicks SC 08B head coach Juan Lopez said. “We skipped tournaments in January and opted to go with three practices a week with scrimmages, focusing mainly on possession and transitions from defending to attacking.
“It’s a good feeling to get off to a good start and get a jump on the group with six points. Hopefully we can carry this momentum into this week’s games.”
Lopez also talked about how the team will benefit as it competes in the Frontier Conference this season.
“It means a lot to me, my boys and our club to be able to participate in the Frontier Conference,” Lopez said. “The benefit in playing in the Frontier Conference for us is more exposure for my boys and having a pathway to Regionals and Nationals.”
In the 13U Girls age group, Solar SC 09G Angelone (TX-N) also picked up two wins to take an early place at the top of the standings.
“Two wins at the start of the season is a great confidence boost. It will push the girls to continue to up their game and play strong technically, as well as tactically,” Solar 09 head coach Michelle Angelone said. “At Solar, we have an S.R.S.A. program that has tested and strengthened the mentality of my players. This has helped my girls with quick decision making when playing high intensity matches.”
Angelone also talked about what competing in the Frontier Conference means to her team.
“Win, draw or lose, my girls love to compete,” she said. “We view being a part of the Frontier Conference as a huge honor and we know playing such strong teams will only increase our soccer knowledge and playing potential.”
The next Frontier Conference-hosted event will be Feb. 27-28 at Gosling Sports Fields in The Woodlands, Texas. It will include all 16 teams from the 13U Boys and Girls Divisions, as the North Texas teams travel to South Texas.
