GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — This past weekend, the US Youth Soccer Great Lakes Conference saw both the 13U Girls First Division Blue and 14U Boys First Division White kick off their seasons.

Four teams in 13U Girls First Division Blue and three teams in 14U Boys First Division White took part in the opening weekend of action, with each of them trying to establish a firm foundation on which to build as the Spring 2021 season progresses.

In the 13U Girls First Division White, Indy Premier SC 08G Elite II (IN) and Columbus United G’08 Lions (OH-S) kicked things off on Friday night, with Indy Premier edging out Columbus, 1-0. Columbus United G’08 Lions (OH-S) followed that up with a 1-1 draw against Indiana Fire Jrs South 08G Red (IN) on Saturday and a 4-0 loss to CUP 08 South II (OH-S) on Sunday to complete a busy weekend. In the fourth game of the 13U Girls First Division White, Indiana Fire Jrs South 08G Red (IN) defeated CUP 08 South II (OH-S), 1-0, to earn a win that lifted the Indiana side to the top of the table in the early stages of the season.

In the 14U Boys age group, the First Division White kicked things off with three Michigan teams facing off against each other. Michigan Wolves 07 (MI) and Novi Jaguars 2007 Green (MI) played to a 1-1 draw on Friday night. A late Saturday kickoff saw TSC Demons 07 (MI) defeat Novi Jaguars 2007 Green (MI), 4-1, while Michigan Wolves 07 (MI) beat TSC Demons 07 (MI), 3-1, in Sunday’s game to wrap up the weekend. The win for Michigan Wolves saw them take an early place at the table, with a lot of the season still to be played.

“Our team has been eager to begin playing games,” said Rick Larson, coach of Michigan Wolves 07. “This team has a great desire to achieve individual and team success. To play teams in this league at this high level makes getting back to competition even that more special.”
