USA remains atop FIFA Women’s World Rankings

CHICAGO (Via U.S. Soccer) – Having posted a 9-0-0 record so far in 2016, the U.S. Women’s National Team has remained at No. 1 in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings. The USA has been in the top spot since July of 2015, when it regained the number one ranking from Germany after winning the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Prior to that, the USA had held the top ranking for seven years before falling behind Germany for two ranking periods from December of 2014 through July of 2015.

Even though the USA lost six points in the rankings from the last period, it currently has 2,174 ranking points, ahead of Germany (2,117), France (2,068) and England (2,033), which comprise all the teams that recently participated in the SheBelieves Cup in the United States. The USA won the competition, earning narrow wins over all three nations.

Based on its victory at the Asia Olympic qualifying tournament, Australia has moved up to fifth, its highest ranking ever. After its successful Olympic qualifying campaign, Sweden moves up two spots to sixth. After its unsuccessful Olympic qualifying campaign, Japan drops three spots to seventh (its lowest ranking since June 2009). Brazil is eighth, Korea DPR is ninth and Canada is tenth.

China PR, who finished just behind Australia at Olympic qualifying and the team which handed the USA one of its two defeats in 2015, climbed five places to 12th, which is its best ranking since May 2010.

Colombia, which will face the USA on April 6 in East Harford, Conn., and on April 10 in Chester, Pa., moved up one spot to 24th in the world.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking will be published on June 24, 2016.
