USWNT prospect Emily Madril departs Florida State early to sign with NWSL

CHICAGO – The National Women’s Soccer League has signed Emily Madril to a contract through 2025 following the defender’s decision to forgo the remainder of her NCAA eligibility at Florida State University.

Madril, who will have her rights distributed via the 2023 NWSL Draft, will return to the league following a short-term loan to BK Häcken FF of the Swedish Damallsvenskan through the end of the year.

“We are constantly evaluating our policies and procedures to ensure the NWSL is attracting and retaining the best players in the world,” said Chief Operating Officer and Chief Legal Officer Bill Ordower. “Emily is a world-class player, and this move will allow her to continue training and competing at a high level this fall without forfeiting her eligibility for the 2023 season. We wish her luck overseas and look forward to her returning for the upcoming draft.”

Details regarding the 2023 NWSL Draft will be announced at a later date.
