Va. State Cup: Top seeds pick up wins

None of the top eight seeds in the Virginia State Cup boys’ brackets lost in action over the weekend.

Most of the girls’ brackets did not play last weekend, except the Under-17s, in which lower seeds took the field. U-18 boys will be off this weekend.

With the weather cooperating thus far, quarterfinals in each division are scheduled for Oct. 13. No State Cup games will be played during the Columbus Day weekend on Oct. 6-7.

In U-15 boys, No. 1 FC Richmond Magic defeated Roanoke Star Elite 5-1, No. 2 Arlington Impact Red defeated Arlington Impact White 3-0, No. 3 Chantilly Strikers won 4-0 over Sterling Power Orange 97. No. 4 Barca 97 Elite dominated in a 10-0 win over Chesapeake United SC Rage. No. 5 Loudoun 97B Red had among the closest encounter among seeded teams, pulling out a 4-3 win over Cheseapeake United SC Fury. No. 6 Lee-Mount Vernon Soccer Club Patriots 97 Red won 5-2 over Loudoun 97B Black, No. 7 Virginia Rush Nike defeated Richmond Strikers Elite 2-0 and No. 8 McLean MPS Legend Green won 1-0 over Richmond Kickers Elite.
