Villanova women’s soccer announces first member of 2020 recruiting class

Villanova, Pa. – Villanova women’s soccer head coach Chris McLain and his staff have announced the first signing of this year’s recruiting class, midfielder Lauren Ashman.

“Lauren is player who we really are looking forward to seeing play in the Villanova jersey,” shared McLain. “We have been waiting for this time for the last few years. She is powerful, technical and extremely intelligent, no wonder she was pursued by several ACC and SEC conference teams because she offers so much to the team she plays for. We feel she will fit into our system and will play an immediate role in success we have in 2020”.

Ashman earned five varsity letters in soccer and four in track & field at Chenango Forks High School in Binghamton, New York. In soccer she scored 110 goals and helped lead her team to five sectional championships, four straight STAC Championships, and two state championships (2016, 2018). Ashman was named a 2019 All-American and Academic All-Star.

Associate head coach Daniel Clitnovici added, “Lauren will bring even more high quality to an already strong team, she will come in, put her head down and get straight to work. I’m excited for her career here at Villanova”.

Also Ashman played for BC United since 2010 and has won six state championships, three regional championships, and one national league championship in 2018.

Ashman shared that she chose Villanova for many reasons, “There’s an impressive reputation for academics, the campus is beautiful, and the women’s soccer’s coaching staff is amazing. The women’s soccer program is setting up to become a top team in the nation and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”
