VIRGINIA FC Youth partners with English Premier League club Southampton FC
English Premier League club Southampton FC has welcomed VIRGINIA FC Youth (VAFC) to its portfolio of International Academy Partners.
Located in the Mid-Atlantic region on the East Coast of the United States, VAFC was formed in 2019 on the Virginia Peninsula with a priority to provide participation opportunities and grow the game.
VAFC works with young players aged 5-19, along with a pathway into adult teams that includes a U23 Academy at the top of its pyramid.
The club has signed a three-year partnership that will see Southampton FC’s global team support the club’s development across its youth program.
Mark Abrahams, Director of Business & Community Development at Southampton Football Club, commented: “VIRGINIA FC Youth have shown a real ambition to develop as a club. Sporting Director Kevin Darcy is committed to ensure his players development in the best way possible and therefore this naturally aligns with our own Southampton Way.”
The partnership will see a range of opportunities for VAFC staff, players and parents to engage with Southampton FC’s coach and player development program, including an annual UK Player Development Camp for a squad of young players.
Kevin Darcy, VAFC’s Sporting Director, commented: “ Having worked in the youth game for 30-plus years, this partnership is unprecedented, with direct access to curriculum, Academy staff, SFC training sessions, international travel and hosting of SFC staff for player identification camps and development.
“The goal for VAFC is to emulate the SFC Academy model and enhance our club offerings to attract the peninsula’s top players and coaches. Our Under Armour partnership has provided this connection with Southampton FC and we are proud and excited to provide the best look and ultimately the most professional environment for our membership.”
Southampton FC has a growing portfolio of International Academy Partners that supports like-minded clubs and organisations with their ambitions on and off the pitch.
