Virginia State Cup sees five out of six champions crowned
The spring edition of the annual Virginia Youth Soccer Association’s State Cup tournament wrapped up Sunday for all but the Under-14 boys.
Prince William Soccer, Inc (PWSI) were the only club to take home two titles; but they could be matched by Braddock Road Youth Club (BRYC), who have yet to play in the U-14 boys final against Loudoun Soccer’s 99 Red side.
BRYC had a team in three of the five finals played over the weekend, giving the club four Finalists in total for the spring edition of the event. FC Virginia and Annandale Boys and Girls Club (ABGC) each won titles as well.

*BRYC and Loudoun Soccer will face off later this month to determine the Under-14 Championship. Their State Cup tournament was delayed due to Olympic Development Program commitments by many players.
Unlike most of state associations in the United States’ US Youth Soccer network, Virginia only features Under-12 through Under-14 groups in the spring because both boys and girls high school soccer is played in the spring as well. The state does host an Under-19 competition in the spring, but is still in the application phase, as clubs cannot begin play until all squad members have returned from their college commitments

Editor’s Note: An earlier edition of this report erroneously stated that PWSI had advanced to the Under-14 boys final, when in fact it was BRYC.
