Virginia State Cup Semifinals Preview: U15-U19 Girls

The Virginia Fall State Cup semifinals will be played this Saturday, October 28 at the Virginia Soccer Training Center in Fredericksburg.

See below for a rundown of the match-ups on the girls side.

U-15

Herndon Hurricanes Black vs. SYA Cardinals 03 Red
1:00 p.m. on Field 4

After seeing its State Cup run end in the semifinals last year, Herndon Hurricanes Black earned its way back by outscoring its first two opponents by a combined score of 7-0, and is the only team out of the 20 in the U-15 age group to have not allowed any goals in the tournament. SYA Cardinals 03 Red leads all U-15 teams with nine goals so far in State Cup play.

Fredericksburg FC 03 Black vs. Arlington 03 Red
3:00 p.m. on Field 4

It has been an exciting run to the semifinals for Fredericskburg FC 03 Black, which earned a thrilling 5-3 overtime victory against Virginia Rush 03 to open the State Cup, followed by a 1-0 shutout of LMVSC Patriots 03 Red. Arlington 03 Red downed Roanoke Star 3-1 to open the tournament, before a 1-0 overtime win over SOCA Charlottesville Elite 03 to move onto the semis.

U-16

Loudoun 02 Red vs. Virginia Rush 02
10:00 a.m. on Field 7

Last year’s U-16 finalist, Loudoun o2 Red, heads into the semifinals with 11 goals scored and only two allowed in this year’s tournament. Virginia Rush 02 netted two overtime goals in a 3-1 result against FC Richmond Mystx in the tournament opener, and shut out Virginia Beach City FC 1-0 to earn a spot in the semifinals.

Beach FC 02 Red vs. LMVSC Patriots Red
2:00 p.m. on Field 7

Reigning U-15 State Cup champion Beach FC 02 Red has racked up four goals in each of its first two wins, while giving up only one goal along the way. LMVSC Patriots Red, a semifinalist in the 2016 State Cup, is the only team out of the 19 U-16 sides to have not allowed a goal so far. LMVSC earned 6-0 and 2-0 wins over Reston Renegades and Herndon Thunder Black to reach the semis.

U-17

Beach FC 01 Red vs. Arlington 01 Red
3:00 p.m. on Field 2

Both Beach FC 01 Red and Arlington 01 Red saw their 2016 State Cup runs end in the semifinal round last year, and have started the 2017 event in dominant fashion. Beach FC has outscored opponents 8-1 in its first two games, while Arlington enters the semifinals with an 11-1 scoring margin.

Virginia Rush 01 vs. Loudoun 01 Red
9:00 a.m. on Field 4

The 2016 Virginia State Cup U-16 finalist, Virginia Rush 01, is one win away from returning to the title match following a 3-0 shutout of VISTA Freedom FC and a 4-2 defeat of SYA Cardinals 01 Red. Loudoun 01 Red has racked up 10 goals over its first two wins, netting five each against Alexandria and SOCA.

U-18

Arlington 00 Red vs. NVSC Jr. Majestics 00 (CCL)
3:00 p.m. on Field 1

2016 State Cup finalist Arlington 00 Red is back in the semifinals coming off a 4-1 win over SYC Pride Blue. Meanwhile, NVSC Jr. Majestics 00, which saw its 2016 State Cup run end in the semifinals, is back in the final four thanks to a 5-0 rout of Loudoun 00 Red on October 14.

SOCA Charlottesville Elite 00 vs. Virginia Legacy SC Elite
10:00 a.m. on Field 8

Returning State Cup champion SOCA Charlottesville Elite 00 continues its title defense this weekend against 2016 semifinalist Virginia Legacy SC Elite. SOCA blew out LMVSC Patriots 00 Red by a 10-0 margin in its opening game while Legacy downed SCAA Elite 00 by a 5-0 scoreline.

U-19

Arlington 99 Red vs. Herndon United 99
5:00 p.m. on Field 1

Reigning U-18 State Cup champion Arlington 99 Red won a 3-2 battle against SYA Cardinals 00 Red to open this year’s tournament, and followed that with a 5-0 rout of New River United 99 Elite to secure a spot in the semifinals. 2016 U-18 semifinalist Herndon United 99 is tied for the top defensive performance so far with just one goal allowed through two games, while racking up nine on the attacking side.

Vienna Youth Soccer Phoenix 99 vs. Loudoun 99 Red
11:00 a.m. on Field 4

Vienna Youth Soccer Phoenix 99 finished as the U-18 State Cup finalist last year, and this year has scored 8 more goals (17) than the next highest scoring team at the U-19 level entering the weekend. Loudoun 99 Red, which saw its 2016 State Cup run end in the semifinals, has been dominant on both ends in this year’s event with nine goals scored and just one allowed through two games.
