FC Frederick Academy, Buckingham Banshees and others roll to the Virginian title

The nature of championship bouts is that one out of every two teams suffers the thrill of victory, while the other suffers the agony of defeat. In the early contests at Long Bridge Park in Arlington on Monday, before the heat became a factor, five teams went home happy, the other five left thinking about what they could have done differently.

In the U11 Boys Premier Silver division, FC Frederick Academy (Md) returned to The Old Line State having handled Arlington United (Va), beating the Virginia squad by a comfortable scoreline of 4-0.

The U11 Girls Bronze saw a tight 1-0 match between Bethesda Academy (Md) and BRYC Elite White (Va), as Bethesda headed back around the Beltway with the title.

The Buckingham Banshees (Pa) dominated the ASC Sparks (Va) 4-1 in the Girls U11 Premier Gold, while CYA Cesena beat club-mates CYA Cesena Purple by five goals in a 6-1 domination of the U12 Boys Premier Gold championship match.

On the big field, the Under 13 Girls Silver saw the McLean Spirit’s (VA) championship aspirations dashed by the Alexandria Revolution (Va) in a close match, losing 3-2.

The 10:00 games saw the U11 Boys Premier Bronze East title go home with the SYC Lions Silver (Va) after their 5-1 demolishing over McLean Hotspur Gold (Va). Meanwhile, the Under 11 Girls Bronze West was captured by the WBSC Strikers in a nailbiter as they defeated Loudoun Girls Silver (VA) 1-0. The McLean Fire White (Va) sent the Waldorf Storm (Md) back to Maryland empty handed as the Fire prevailed 4-1 in the U12 Boys Bronze division. In the Under 11 Girls Silver East, BWSC Girls Elite (Tn) and GSC Premier Red (Va) finished a tight one, with the Virginia club eking out a 1-0 win over the Tennessee squad.

In the 11:30 game, the U13 girls Premier Gold match, the local Reston Elite (Va) sent Delaware’s HSC Chaos home with a hard fought 1-0 over time loss.

The 11:30 games saw the VYS Raptors (Va) snag the U11 Boys Bronze title with their 1-0 defeat of the NVSC Jr Royals Blue (Va), Meanwhile, the hour’s one Gold match, U11 Boys, saw the NVSC Jr Royals (Va) A-squad defeated GSC Premier Red (Va) 1-0.

On the girls’ side of the contest, Premier AC (Va) beat SASA Revolution (Va) 4-2 for the Silver West crown, and Patriots White (Va) topped Reston Magic (Va) 2-1 for the Bronze title.

In the final match of the day at Long Bridge Park, the Vista Royals (Va) defeated Sterling FC White (Va) by a final score of 2-1 to capture the U14 Boys Bronze category.
