VSA announces Premier Program for 2nd, 3rd level travel teams
(Via VSA) – Virginia Soccer Association (VSA) has announced the introduction of the Premier Program for second and third level travel teams to continue to enhance the experience for all players at the club. The Premier Program will replace the current Select Red and Navy program. The program will focus on developing a core foundation for players to have increased opportunities to develop their skill set with increased oversight, improved competition platform, and connection between NPL and Premier teams.
“During my 5 years at the club we have seen growth in many areas from the number of teams and players to the level and expectations of all teams. Our 2nd and 3rd teams now compete at very competitive levels with many of these teams in the top 2 divisions of NCSL and ODSL. This growth in quality has given us an opportunity to reflect and really say we can do more to enhance the program for these players. We strongly believe that the Premier Program will reward these players” Matt Lacey, Executive Director.
One of the highlights of the program will be the introduction of the club’s participation in the VYSA and US Youth Soccer event ‘Presidents Cup’ for Premier Red teams. This will provide our Premier level players the opportunity to compete in a level-appropriate state, regional, and national event.
“The President’s Cup provides a progressive, competitive experience to teams that they might not otherwise get the opportunity to participate in. It is a competition, where teams can play other high level teams, through a platform that progresses from the state to regional to national levels of US Youth Soccer.” Gordon Miller, VYSA Technical Director
Another big part of the Premier Program will be the connection with the NPL Elite teams and increased competition platform to develop team unity. The club will re-introduce club concept nights (Director of Coaching Nights) where all teams are trained by the clubs Directors and NPL coaches within their age groups. Premier Red teams will now compete in two quality away travel events (Capital fall classic and the VA Presidents Day Cup and Showcase) that will provide teams time to bond while enjoying good competition and social interactions. Premier Red and Royal teams will continue to follow the clubs curriculum and periodization along with the introduction of enhanced conditioning, education, and college preparation programming.
“I look forward to further developing a more direct player pathway that will benefit all Premier Players with VSA and I am excited to create a more visible link amongst all our travel teams. Having a platform that has open communication amongst staff and coaches, identifying those players that have been committed, working hard and making proper decisions on and off the field. Allowing VSA the proper training and playing environment for all our Premier players to develop as players and people” Steve Hoover, Director of Player Development U11-U19.
Finally, not all achievements happen on the soccer field. Starting next season we will highlight one select player a week on social media who has achieved off the field success at school or in the local community. Our goal is to not only develop good soccer players but leaders in the community.
