WAGS: Division races heating up at halfway point of fall season

Lee-Mount Vernon SC Patriots scored a 4-0 win over ASC Premier Gold Saturday in Washington Area Girls Soccer League High School Division 1 action to stay two points ahead of Chantilly Revolution 95, who won its division game Sunday.
Chantilly Revolution 95 (2-0-1) defeated CYA Hotshots (1-1-3) 1-0 Sunday. The win keeps them within two points of LMVSC, but Revolution 95 have played one fewer league game.
CYA Hotshots tied its other game of the weekend Saturday, a 1-1 decision with last place ASC Premier Gold (0-4-1). CYA Hotshots and Herndon Curve (2-1-0) are tied with six points, though Curve has played two fewer games.
In Under-15 Division 1 play, Herndon Freedom (5-0-1) has a seven point lead over FSC Xtreme (3-2-0) after an 8-1 win over ASC Wolves (0-5-0). FSC Xtreme, meanwhile, fell 2-1 to Maryland Rush Nike 97G (2-2-1) Saturday to lose ground to Herndon. Maryland Rush Nike had a chance to take hold of third place all to themselves ahead of CSC Patuxent Swarm, but in their second game of the weekend, fell 1-0 to Swarm (2-1-1).
Freedom’s dominance has been evident, having outscored division opponents 27-4 in six games.
In U-14 Division 1, TSC SIAFU, at 5-1-0, is two points ahead of ASA Azzurri (4-0-1) and three points ahead of SAC Premier Blue (3-0-3), but the latter two are still without a loss in division play, and ASA Azzurri has played one fewer game.
TSC SIAFU won both of its weekend games, defeating ASC Arsenal (2-2-0) 2-1 on Saturday and following that up with a 5-0 win over SAC Premier White (0-4-0)Sunday. ASA Azzurri, meanwhile, kept pace with a 4-1 win over ASC Arsenal and SAC Premier Blue played to a scoreless tie with VYS Thunder Gold (1-2-2).
It’s a tight race at the top of U-13 Division 1, as just one point separates the top two teams, and four teams are closely bunched together after that.
VYS Patriots Black (5-1-1), leads the division with 16 points, with Freestate North Red one point behind at 15. However, CUGI United 99 (4-1-0), LMVS Patriots Red (3-1-1), SYC Storm White (3-1-1) and SAC United Premier (3-2-1) have all played fewer games than the top two teams, with CUGI United 99, LMVS Patriots Red and SYC Storm White each having played two fewer division games.
VYS Patriots Black, in its two games over the weekend, defeated SAC United Premier 5-1 Saturday. In Sunday’s showdown for first place, VYS Patriots Black and Freestate North Red to a scoreless tie.
The league takes this coming weekend off for the Columbus Day holiday, though many of the its teams will be involved in the WAGS Rael Vodicka Memorial Tournament.
