Women advance to second round in NCAA Tournament
With first round action complete, all of the seeded teams with the exception of No. 4 seeded Ohio State remain in the NCAA DI Women’s Soccer Championship.
Shannon Coley saved three penalty kicks as Oakland (11-5-4) advanced 3-1 in a shootout after a 1-1 draw with No. 4-seeded Ohio State (16-4-2) in the opening round of the NCAA tournament on Saturday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Oakland moves on in the tournament for the first time in school history and travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to face Texas A&M on Friday.
Georgetown outshot the Hokies just 10-9 to slip past Virginia Tech 3-2 in overtime and advance to Round 2 of the NCAA tournament for the second time in three years.
Kelsey Dinges connected for a goal with nine seconds in regulation and Kayla Zakrzewski hit the game-winner in overtime to send Miami (Ohio) past No. 20 Tennessee in first-round play Sunday.
