Over 300 players attend NJ Youth Soccer Young Olympians Festival

EAST WINDSOR, NJ (Via NJ Youth Soccer) ― NJ Youth Soccer celebrated its Young Olympians Festival with more than 300 premier U-11 and U-12 players. These specially-selected athletes had the unique opportunity to compete in a small sided game format with top talent and further their soccer education with presentations by top professional soccer players and managers.

The boys’ event in Marlboro was highlighted by a visit from Tab Ramos, former NJYS ODP, U.S. National Team star, MLS All-Star, World Cup veteran and member of the NJ Youth Soccer and National Soccer Hall of Fame. As the current coach of the U.S. Men’s Under-20 National Team, Ramos educated players about the importance of individual practice, mental toughness, being confident and leading a life of strong character.

The girls’ event in Wall was complimented by a visit from Christy Holly, head coach of Sky Blue FC, who led his team to a hot start by handing the Seattle Reign their first ever home defeat. Holly spoke to players about the incredible tradition of women’s soccer in NJ, the strength of NJ players on his current roster, and the significance of setting goals.

From this event, select boy players will be chosen to play in a scrimmage with the New York Red Bulls Development School (RDS) and select girls will scrimmage with NJ Youth Soccer State Cup champions. “Our Young Olympians and Club NJYS Festival brings together talented 10- and 11-year-old players from around the Garden State. This player-centered competition is designed to provide a fun, positive and challenging day of soccer,” says Mike Petke, NJYS Director of ODP and Player Development.
