Virginia State Cup to feature ‘Champions League’ format beginning in Fall 2015
(Via VYSA) – The Virginia Youth Soccer Association (VYSA) announced today that beginning with the Fall 2015 National Championship Series (Virginia State Cup), VYSA will introduce a “Champions League” format for all teams advancing to the round of 8 (quarterfinals). In the Champions League format, the eight teams reaching the quarterfinals in each age group will be placed into two divisions of four where each team will play the other three in their division once with the top two in each division advancing to the semifinals on a point basis. All Champions League Round matches will be played at the Virginia Soccer Training Center, VYSA’s state of the art facility in centrally located Fredericksburg.
“We are excited to be able to offer the top teams in the state the opportunity to play each other in this highly competitive format where teams advance on a point basis to the semi-final rounds of the prestigious National Championship Series (VA State Cup)” commented Anne Thompson, VYSA’s State Cup Chair.
VYSA will be announcing the specifics of the new format in the coming weeks with registration for Fall 2015 opening in July.
